Default Mondeo Headlight Flicker

When driving my 2001 tddi mondeo along dark country roads i notice maybe say 3/5 times on a 20 mile trip the headlights like flicker not on and off but get dimmer then back to normal

The car has a new battery less than 6 months and also a new genuine ford alternator less than a year old.

I think i read someone the alternator on these is a smart charge and only charges when needed?

Is the flickering the alternator starting to charge? At the minute the car is driven basically only in the dark as its dark when i go to work and dark coming home so the head lights are always on.

Cheers

I've got the same problem with a Skoda Fabia and a Fiat Punto checked basics (alt, batt, earths etc) and its doing me nut in as i can't seem to fix it

On both cars the heater blower has stopped working aswell plus they got the stupid Electric Power Steering Pumps so got a feeling its something to do with one of these problems

If anyone can help myself and the OP that'll be appreciated

Thanks

Could be the positive lead that goes from the Battery to the alternator having a too higher resistance. The Mk2 Mondeo and Focus suffered and with yours being an early mk3 it could be the same problem

It isnt really bad but it is noticeable when driving so id rather fix it now before/if it gets any worse.

I know the dash lights flicker sometimes if you have them on full brightness but mine arent turned up full so they are fine.
