Default Alloy wheel losing air? help!

For the last few months ive noticed everytime i check my pressures i always have to put 6-8psi in the front drivers wheel, all the others are fine.

Now today ive noticed the steering feel abit strange, so i looked at the front tyre to discover it looks almost flat so checked the pressure and it was on something like 10psi, so i put in 30 with my electric pressure thingy and when i switched it off i can actually here air coming from the wheel somewhere, now knowing that it was losing air every week/month prior to this im certain its not a puncture etc.

Can/ how would it be repaired? just take it to a wheel repair shop? i dont have a spare 17" wheel so id have to leave the car there would it take them long ?

Cheers

Buy a new tyre?

Have you tried taking the wheel off and putting it in a big bucket full of water to see where the air is coming from? It could be something as simple as the valve or the beading.

curbed it a bit and broke the seal-----!!no big deal i would have thought just take it to a tyre repair and tell them to look for a puncture they will re- seal it then.

Could be cracked, check carefully around the inner rim edge.

Could be, as the tyre is not that old on it.

Do your alloys have any corrosion? It's common for corrosion to appear on or around the bead, which then results in air loss.

They do abit mate, nothing terrible but there not perfect.

By bead you mean around the edge of the rim? if so the edge is not perfect all the way round.

Take the wheel off, pump it up to approx 30psi, and listen to where the air is coming from. If you can`t find it by ear, spray the whole tyre with soapy water not forgetting the valve or the valve core. If it is a rim leak and there is no crack, then any tyre depot can fix it straight away while you wait.

do you have weights on the wheel? if so alot of alloys leak air around where they whack the weight on, especially if they are hammered on to the outer rim rather than stuck on

had mine repaired last weekend actually due to the above

Yeah, the inside of the rim. The only way you can tell is by taking the Tyre off. If it is leaking past the bead, the inner edge of the rim will need sanding down, bead sealer applied and then the Tyre refitting. If your near Redditch (I see your in West Mids) go to a place called Stanton Automotive. My old man works there and there a friendly bunch. They will sort you out no bother.

P.S, don't worry about knock on weights causing it. The tab is so thin, that it doesn't cause enough air loss for you to actually hear it. If they did, people would not make them anymore!

I've never yet had any tyre that didn't lose a little over time, even with brand new alloys and tyres, until I used ultraseal, stops 100% of this, as well as sealing punctures, and makes the tyres last longer as they run cooler.

Yeah, can look at it on Saturday but you would need to book it in. Give them a ring tomorrow (IIRC, there open 08:30am until 17:30pm) and say that "Nathan French" recommended them and explain your issue. I'm sure they could sort you out a cheap price. It wouldn't be expensive as it shouldn't take long for them to at least take a look.

Great stuff cheers

I dont know road names but is it down a road thats not very wide with houses on either side, then you go over a cross road with a set of lights, and its on the left? might be a different garage but i remember taking my old escort over there for a problem with my electrics, but cant remember the name of the road/garage. Probably not the one but you never know.

If its not the one im thinking then is it near to the kingfisher shopping centre? i know where that is

It's kind of near the Centre, but there are loads of Garages there so it's hard to say whether your thinking of the right one or not. Check out the link below. It has all the details as well as a Google Map thingy. If need be, just punch the postcode into your Sat-Nav, or ask for directions on Google Maps. It's easy enough to find.
