Mine has actually dropped by about £35 for my ST170.

For the VW Golf, an increase of £10.

So not too bad...

NO mistake, I already phoned them, they said the VAT had gone up wtf!!
Already cancelled, as have my 25 years NCB proof, I think they don't like higher risk cars anymore, with previous phoning around I got it down to around £400 with 400bhp(future mods) and unlimited mileage, as soon as the weather clears I'm ready to get back on road, got all the bits(apart from wheels-let down).
Currently it's still insured till late feb when policy expires so plenty of time, I've actually just not renewed rather than cancel, as that would cost me 2 months premium at £92.66 a month, £185 just to cancel!!

you havent taken out the new policy already have you?

you know its illegal to be insured on a vehicle by 2 seperate insurance companys(your allowed a 2week cross over)

I work for a car insurance company and just letting you know incase to save potential problems

p.s insurance premium tax has gone from 5% to 6% so dont let them blame it on the vat change

I had the same problem last year with my current car.

Was due for renewal in july on my passat 1.9tdi, I got 10 years ncb, no points no mods etc nothing had changed apart from another years ncb and it went from £442 a year to £976. That was with direct line, as you can imagine i told them to stick it.

shopped around and got it for £640, still no better but insurance is essential

Mine went from £400 last year, to £1100 with my insurance company. i did have a claim against me as i bumped my neighbours car, but i had protected no claims, so still had them.

i had been with the same insurance company for six years, and built my no claims with them. i said i could understand an increase due to the claim, but nearly three times as much was outragous.

i shopped around, and got it for £650, but its still £250 more than last year.

My insurance renewal on my ST170 went down by £20 BUT when i looked closely the monthly payments had gone up!!
APR on the finance to pay it monthly has increased so the reality it cost me nearly £100 MORE!! I have 9 years NCB Proof, i was told that you get the 60% discount at 5 years then the premium will go up every year with inflations tax etc!! Im 28 with 9 years NCB and i pay over £600 on an ST170 which i think is steep!

I ran a van for 3 years on TWO seperate policies 100% legally, as the van spent so much time abroad, mainly germany sometimes months at a time, it had to also be registered there, an dyes I had to do plate swaps, uk insurer would insure in germany for that length of time, been to court and this spurious charge you mention was thrown out.

I've just phoned up Footman James, they quoted me, "sorry we no longer insure ANY modified bhp increase cars", when I challenged this I was told since middle of last year renewals for bhp increase won't be renewed.
So I'm still phoning around, personally I don't give a toss if it is insured with 2 people and the "allowable" overlap was more than 2 weeks, but of course sensibly I'll start new one the day after the old one finishes.

Just done mine today after a bit of phoning about Flux phoned me to ask if I was going to renew with them,
told them that I didnt want to pay over £400 and will be looking about for a better price so they came back with a quote of £400 for comp with all mods

funny when I phoned a week or so back the best they could do was £458(wanted £512 at first)

Mine has gone down for the last 3 years about £10-£20 a year until this.
Chris Clacy at A Plan quoted me very happy, at £459, for everything fully comp with unlimited mileage, looking further on my last insurers renewal the total price including the charge for paying monthly is £1,112.36p, they've charged me £101.12p just because I pay monthly(22.4% APR), A plan are charging me just under £50 for paying monthly, so will pay up front methinks.
The great bit about the RSOC official insurer is despite now 6 enquiries they've still not phoned back like they said they would, that was Boncaster.
Had a good chat with Chris from A Plan, a really decent chap, couldn't be more helpful, sorted it out, phoned me back when he said with the good news, can thoroughly recommend him/them.
Now going to phone around for gf's insurance, as no doubt being as he's the same insurer hers may take a hit also come renewal.

It is getting a joke and the insurance companies are trying their luck.

My 4be went up by £2 this year, no issues there
The cabriolet and 2000e stayed exactly the same.

The Cinquecento went up by £45, so I shoppped around and got it down to £16 more than last year

The Fiesta went from £211 last year to £369, but after trying another insurance company that sent a "try us" style leaflet through and having an argument with India over details, I got it down to £191 (for 4 people, including one person under 30)

Worst one though was the woman who owns the cafe round the corner from work. She has a 2003 BMW X5 4.4i V8 and paid £600 last year. This year, her quote was £2,935

With a bit of ringing around and playing one off against the other, we managed to get hers down to £900, still 50% extra compared to last year though.

Aparently, insurance companies make nothing from 'insurance'.

the premiums collected are used to play the stock market, insurance companies invest in the markets to make a profit.

The over the top general increase in the cost of insurance has nothing to do with your own insurance risk, but more to do with insurance companies wanting to make back their hefty losses in the recession.

its not just car insurance, its home insurance too!

theiving bar-stewards the lot of them!

Im 38, clean licence, 12 years+ NCB & paying over £700 for a 2002 1.6 Focus 'chic' special edition, a raise of over £100 on last year via Swinton insurance....Robbing gits!
