Tax ends at the end of the month and so does my mot, so i wanted to tax it well in advanced so i dont have any problems when mot time comes. Went onto the dvla site, typed in the ref number on the reminder, i get the correct car details etc come up, then click next, it says processing or whatever then comes up saying......
MOT Test Certificate could not be found
Sorry, it has not been possible to match the vehicle with a MOT Test Certificate at this time and you are unable to complete your application for a tax disc using this service
Is this because my mot is almost expired? if so can i still tax it this week in the post office?

You certainly can't buy tax to start on 1 Feb if the MOT expires at the end of Jan - it has to be in force at the time the tax starts.
Never heard about needing a whole month on it though?
You can put it through an MOT a bit in advance and the start date won't be until the expiry of the current certificate. Can't remember if it is 2 weeks or a month, though.

can mot 1 month before expiry
and to tax, the mot has to be valid on the day the tax comes in to force(1st feb)
so if your mot is up in jan then it doesnt have mot when your asking for the new tax to begin

Bastard, so really im stuck with this every year then? unless i do 6months tax now, then on renewal i can do 12months which would not clash with my mot again next year.

It will still start from whatever date towards the end of Jan 2011, expiring on the same date in Jan 2012.
Either do the 6m tax, or lay the car up for a few days (remembering to SORN), get it MOTd early Feb, then tax it from 1 Feb - problem solved forever.
