Default R888 tyre shelf life

Looking at brand new r888s what age would you not buy them at, if they have been stored how lo would it be before they're un usable like?

Going to get some tomorrow if they're not too old just need to know when he tells me the date on them I suppose

Thanks, jim

A lot will depend on how and where they have been stored.

In direct sunlight on their sidewalls sitting on a concrete floor is going to shorted their life considerably.

a tyre lif has a shelf life of 3 or 5 years i think

ive had my r888s on my wheels for over a year now and they have been stored ina heated room as the warning label states not to let them go below zero

Shouldn't do Jimbo - Mark has a set of R888s in his garage for ages and they didn't degrade in anyway sitting there. Think the date of manufacture is on the tyre somewhere? if you can find it you can confirm how old they are.

Cool! He is going to let me know how old they are so I can decide if I want them, just don't want to buy hundreds of pounds worth of tyre and they be no good, not to mention 4 hours travelling

As above, have heard bad things happen at under 0 degrees but have no personal experience.

Some rubber degrades and can crack if not stored proper in cold temps. I don't think it is too much of an issue when the tyres are in use, more if standing for long periods then fitted and used

Some of mine have gone under 0 degrees, but never when fitted to a car, Ive not noticed any ill effects.

I'll try and dig out the PDF about it jimbo.

http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/TireStorage.pdf

Summary:
If they are off the wheel, not a problem
If they are on the wheel, let them down a bit, not a problem
If the car is sitting on them, it IS a problem

Thanks guys I'll ask the guy how they are stored and if they have sat at less than 0degrees for any amount of time, also check for cracking,

So if I go by that and under 3-5 years old I shouldn't have a problem?

Agreed, you should be fine mate, TBH if they have clearly never been fitted to a wheel, it doesnt really matter how they have been stored as they cant have seen load anyway

All 3 are tried and tested, so I'm guessing Jimbo went for the all rounder that has the best looking tread also. I want them too, but need to find 2 spare RL7's first...
