Not too bad of a job.

Drain the cooling systen, and remove the rad,
remove both drive belt's and crank pulley,
line up timing belt, remove tensioner and belt

pump is right in front of you.

They don't give trouble, very rare to be replaced
Replace the belt while your at it

Not too bad a job, get 3 or 4 crocodile clips to help you put the timing belt back on, cam's are on the rock and tend to want to spring one way or the other.

Might as well replace the t.belt. I think gate's ones from dingbro are about 50 or 60 quid, they have 4 or 5 white lines on them to line up with the pulley's to help you time it correctly.

Tensioner will need to be put in a vice as it's hydraulic and then you'll need a pin or piece of welding wire (stainless) to hold it.

SOHC or DOHC ?

Either way, it's easy enough. There are only two pumps, one for cars with an oil cooler, and one for without. Likely if its a n.a car it wont have.

But it's radiator out, timing belt off job. 2-3 hours with no problems at all really.

Easy enough job to do, did a quad cam turbo one yesterday in around 3 hours start to finish.

Take the expansion bottle and fans off and you have plenty of room, no need to remove the radiator.

I very lightly clamped the two n/s cams together as they are on the rock when you time it up at TDC, the two on the o/s can move very easily when you have the belt off so be sure to mark it up well before taking the belt off.

Also be sure to compress the hydraulic tensioner very slowly and if there are any signs of oil dampness coming from it fit a new one !

When it takes about 2 minutes to remove the rad, which gives you a lot more room...why on earth wouldnt you ?
it would take far longer to split the rad/fans like you suggest.

And you fit the belt with pistons at 90deg, not TDC. All pulleys are clearly marked, it's hard to put the belt on wrong.

I was going to say, prob quicker to lift the rad out than unbolt the fans. Also give you more room and save risking rad damage.
