Should I take the plunge and get a S2 RST???

+1,clios will keep dropping for a few more years now then as they get rarer they'll creep up in value too but I'd say at least 5 years down the line.
Think how cheap s2's were about 5-6 years ago, loads about under a grand and now only total scrappers for that.£2k upwards I'd say for a decent useable car with plenty of ticket.

I'd love another old ford but reality is decent ones must be very thin on the ground these days especially for the likes of series 2's and fezzie turbos etc

gotta say i couldnt live with an rst as a daily, had one ten year ago and then it was pile of shite, paid good money and still had to rebuild it, wish i had just got a cossie in the first place as these in my opinion are still nice to drive everyday, if you want an rs just get a cossie, if you want a fun car car get a clio

personally i think you lot are trying to compare chalk and cheese. s2s and clios are different in nearly every possible way. yes s2 are nearly all rotten now but then again you dont buy an s2 to drive everyday (if you have any sense or a well set up one) if your lookin for a daily driver which this bloke isnt, then you buy a mondeo. if your lookin for an s2 then yeah go for it, just be prepared to have an open wallet and spend out on it when it needs it. personally i dont like any renaults and everyone knows they go wrong all the time, and when they go wrong theyre expensive to fix. with an s2 when it goes wrong, theres places like this forum where you can go to help you out to try and diagnose and it most likely wont cost fuck all to fix. just remember you dont buy old cars and expect not to have to spend any money on them and to be 10000000% reliable.
happy new year!

personally i think with a budget of 2k your still going to have problems with an S2 and a renault clio is not going to be cheap to repair either, geniune are exspensive.
BUT with the clio you have a better chance of finding one thats not a heap. i have considered buyin an s2 many times but i just couldnt plough thousands of pounds if it went wrong.
at the end of the day it all depends on your disposal income and whether you have the time/money to keep either variant running and road legal.

Thanks, everyone. sadly, since I asked the owner for the previous keeper's contact details, i havent received a single message back. the pistonheads ad now says sold as well, so it looks like ive missed my chance.
Quite gutted actually as Ive decided its what i really wanted and if im honest, i never expected to see one in the condition this one was in. will have another look if another one comes up relatively local (i cant afford the time to drive to the other end of the country on a whim just to have a look at one unfortunately), so fingers crossed!
Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise as ideally, i did want a white one. :-(

Hi Andy, well bit of a shame but I wouldn't worry too much about it,there's plenty out there.in fact only a few months back a lad was selling a mint White one on here for £2000,maybe a bit less in the end.looked really clean.
Tbh mate there's loads of nice ones out there, just keep looking and the right one will pop up.

Never been a fan of the s2, the mfi set up is poor. Handle bad
I tend to find the FRST as more usable car, much entetaining drive, especially when the power is increased
