AFAIK Its different in that it prevents a pressure differential by restricting the air before the turbo, rather than allowing the air after the turbo somewhere to go (through the engine), and it doesnt involve the same amounts of exhaust gas flow either potentially, so surely thats a fairly significant difference so not really "no different"?
Another interesting development ive seen recently talked about in terms of combatting lag is this one for twin scroll turbos:

Its actually a pretty good theory IMHO, although seems a little on the pricey side for what it is, might have a go at making something similar one day to see if it works or not as my nova with a non split pulse manifold would be the ideal testing ground for it.
I'd be inclined not to use the little fasteners though and to just weld straight onto the shaft, imagine those little feckers going through your turbo's exhaust turbine, would properly fuck it!

Chip would this system work on a RS500 t4 or would it need a twin scroll exhaust housing & what would be the best way to control the flap .

the system requires a non twin scroll manifold and a twin scroll turbo exhaust housing, the 2wd cosworth manifold is twin scroll isnt it?therefore it wont work as you would be blanking off 2 cylinders at the exhaust end,not ideal

This is very old skool martin schanche used this on his escort back in 1991-2 with cosworth engine but never seen it used now days in rallycross as they have silly 45 mm restrictor and run tubic manifolds and run als them days als was not around on rallycross engines they just used lorry size turbos with lag then take off at 4k with a bang
