Default do i need bigger intercooler 3dr cosworth

i got my 3dr a few weeks ago and i split the boost hose between the turbo and intercooler so i ordered one for my cosworth thinking it had 70mm pipes but now relised that the hose is too big on the intercooler end ...

my intercooler is about 62mm pipes

the car is 500+bhp running
autronic sm4 mapped for 2.2bar
gt35 roller bearing with external wastegate and screamer anti surge ect ....
1000cc injectors
fully ported head with custom cams and pullys ect
fully lightened and balanced bottom end
pocketed pistons with standard compression
and loads more

its still running a modded 2wd inlet and throttle bodie and has seen 525bhp when first built @2.2bar but i had it rolling roaded with the split boost pipe and only managed 1.5bar and 414bhp/416lbs

what im thinking is i might want a 70mm intercooler but will i need a bigger inlet plenum and throttle bodie to make the most of it...

ive got a price for a hart inlet but can you run a 70mm throttle bodie with it.

and the main question how much difference with a hart inlet/70mm i/c and bigger throttle bodie make if the car made 525bhp on the spec it has

Well running the power you are i would suggest the Spec-R intercooler and the Hart inlet with a 70mm TB, then a map check.

With the right cams and inlet plenum your car should do 600 hp and over 500 lb ft..

Obviously if your thinking of going that route then i would suggest a spec r intercooler and the right size pipes!!

TB is off a ST Escos.

Intercooler is about Ł715 but will be going up when the VAT goes up.

I got my ST inlet and TB cheap, not sure on price but don't think you will get a complete one much cheaper than Ł200.

I have No spacer on mine.

If 550 hp is what you want then it will be just a bit lower boost than 600 hp!!!lol
You need to make up your mind what t/b you want or use as the plenum is made different for the different t/bs,also if your going to the trouble of using a bigger t/b then id put an rs 500 one on but believe me with all the right bits that engine would do over 550 hp at 2 bar!!

sounds good mate im just going to start looking for the bits then ...

so i need
spec r intercooler
hart inlet
rs500 t/b
and boost hoses to match
and remap

not alot realy if i wanted to run 600bhp but ive been told if i wanted to go over 580bhp i would need an exhaust manifold to suit.... thats why im thinking 550bhp

I take it your on a std manifold then with a modded trouser section for seperate w/g???
If thats what your staying with but with hart inlet and 500 t/b and spec r theres still a chance of 600 hp..
Tbf 550 or 600 hp you wont know the difference as it will be bonkers either way..
If you need a 500 t/b let me know as i get brand new remanufactured ones but they arent cheap!!

cheers danny

i might have one mate but how much are they as the intercooler is Ł715...
to be honest its bloody bonkers as it is
its very lively for the spec and bloody rips

and its on standard 3dr wheels with r888s coilovers and motorsport diff and quickshift
brakes are new refurbed standard calipers with new uprated discs and pads

Mark, the Airtec is a good cooler yes, but the Spec-R will show it's worth in the hot summer weather in regards to ACTs.

Nothing wrong with the Airtec intercooler, it made the same power as the Spec-R one.

Just the Spec-R one picked up power earlier, and the ACTs didn't rise until the throttle was shut.

I have sold my 70mm Airtec one to get a Spec-R one, and im a tight arse lol.

Just to add, if you go with the Hart inlet you will have to have the intercooler pipe changed.
