Tis fine, you'll often find a spur up there if it's had an aerial booster fitted in the past, you can use that for a feed if you prefer?

If the landing light has a live feed to the fitting connect another cable to that. You can then either feed a switch or feed the loft light fitting then add a switch to that.

No one can give the correct answer without knowing how the house is wired, or what is in the loft

Yes, but not really right if it only works with the landing light - show us a pic of the ceiling rose for the landing light and we can go from there.

IF the lights are wired in a loop in setup then all you need to do is come off the loop at a ceiling rose on the upstairs and bring a neutal with it to a switch, just switch the live then up to the fitting. But this is altering the circuit so therefore requires testing to prove the circuit and cable. So only right way to do it is to get a spark in. This way you know its safe and installed correctly.

i here what your saying, this light is only going to be used occasionaly, when putting stuff in the loft ect, thats why i thought running off the landing light will be the easiest way to do it,i can get a pic of the rose at the weekend if its going to help any.
