I'd have that car over any current Ferarri or Lambo. In fact I know someone who is selling their F40 for one.....

great car, someone took a brand new one to brunters the other day. The day after it was delivered! did 198mph.

Awesome for standard car.

I'd have had one for list price. Like MANY others would have!

will be keeping a very close eye on prices. Sadly I think they will just go up and up. This is a REALLY special car.

That's just stupidity ! The Porsche will be dynamically the superior car - but it's 20 years in front of the F40 development wise so it should be. Anyone in their right mind would take the F40 surely....and that's not counting residuals etc.

I adore this Porsche, but I wouldn't take it over an F40 for any man. I have a customer who collects Porsche's and takes delivery of his very soon. Lovely guy, I get on very well with him and I'll be asking for a ride !

As cool as the F40 was in its day, there wouldn't even be consideration for me, I'd be in the modern Porsche in the blink of an eye.

There are some cool cars on their main website too, including an Audi R8 GTR and a Veyron.

Mr Lloyd?

I think the Porker is bloody cool but and F40 is ultimate cool. I wouldn't swap if I was lucky enough to dabble in 200k cars

over 1500 F40s made... always a few for sale.

NOT a rare car at all really.

Only 500 of these Porsches ever made.

Not sure what I would choose really.

To use and enjoy driving HARD. The 911...

To own and enjoy and look at. Maybe the F40.

I prefer F50s to both.

Owning and enjoying F40s and F50s is VERY VERY expensive compared with the Gt2RS though

You can't run any of them on a budget - if you can't afford to maintain the car properly then you can't afford the car is my view. But as you say - running costs on them will be high either way. Still nowhere near as bad as a Veyron with tyres at £6,800 a corner every 2500 miles, or a new set of rims every 3rd tyre change at £36,000....F40 and F50 seem cheap by comparison !

I don't know mate - the reason I know what I've said is a little while back EVO magazine did a supercar special on residuals and running costs, and the Veyron was miles ahead of anything else in terms of running costs. I remember those numbers !!!!

plato drove one on fifth gear round silverstone last week. looked awesome, but he said he would rather have a 458 italia. and even though clarkson gets a semi on about the 458 in his new dvd, and the fact, ill never drive, or be able to afford either, if my numbers came up, i really would prefer the porker.

yes you can mate.

a NEW 997GT2RS will cost buttons to run if you just run it as road car.

3 year warrenty dont forget.

it only needs a service EVERY 2 YEARS!!!!!!! and that INCLUDES OIL CHANGES!!!!

it has carbon brakes so you dont need any pads or discs.
Rear tyres are your only expense! and you will get 5k out of a set easy if you just drive it on road.

if you were lucky enough to get a new one. You could run it for few years and make money on it...

Anyone who bought an original Enzo has been in money from moment they walked out of showroom with one! Always traded above list price... niiiice

I think I read somewhere that the wheels twist and start to crack because of the huge amounts of power and grip.

I like all the bullshit know nothing comments about the F40 . This particular one has very good provenance and it's value has doubled since he originally bought it (so in his opinion, now is the time to sell it ). This is the problem though, it is now worth so much, that he is loathe to do anything that will cause a drop in the value, so it sits there as an (extremely expensive) ornament. His comment to me was that if he sold it for what it is currently insured for, he could buy two GT2 RS's .

In that case, finance the GT2 RS via Porsche (which you HAVE to if you buy new from them, they won't let it go anywhere else), refinance the F40 for £165k and buy a GT2 RS....or more to the point if he can afford an F40 he can most likely to buy a GT2 RS anyway.

Either way, F40 still in the garage....

This is his second one now and I think he has got to the point where he can't see the point in having an "ornament" which is worth so much that it has swayed the way he uses it. When it was "only" worth what the GT2's RRP is, he sent me some phone video clips of him drifting it all the way around a big roundabout near where he lives along with a photo of the GPS showing 212mph (it's mildly tuned to around 525-530bhp with a Tubi and fractionaly raised boost) . Now the value has doubled, it sits in the garage most of the time, which in his (and my mind) is obviously criminal. He would rather have a car he can use and abuse (he was already talking about what time he could get out of the GT2 around the Ring ).

You could save nearly 100 grand and get a GT3 RS which is the best of the lot-sounds better too, absolute screamer of an engine compared to the GT2RS.

The GT2RS is just the ultimate braggers 911 for those that can have one.

Looks pretty epic, is it going to be a widow maker?

All talk of value aside, the F40 or a 288 GTO Evo would be the ultimate for me.

How long did it take the F to double in value?

Why has he had 2?

The F40 always used to be around £250, during worst of the recession some of the cat ones without adj suspension dropped to around £175, now seem to go anywhere from £225-£400+ depending I guess on history, etc.
