never driven one but had a quick passenger ride and felt pretty quick.

fun bit is first gear floor it from a crawl, you get pinned in your seat and then come 5k (or whatever it is) the cams kick in and pin you back again

also from sitting in the drivers seat the gear stick IS in the right place even if it looks like a dildo stuck in the dash

If you're talking about 2001-onwards car, then that isn't the original

The EK9 Type R was far far cooler

great cars, had three in our family now.

They do need to be worked hard to get the most of them and this can take a bit of getting used to. They can be a little gutless in the lower revs but this does mean they can be tootled round town if not wanting a spirited drive by the misses and are almost silent on tick over. Very different power delivery to a turbo so not to everyiones taste.

If you are looking at them then watch out for crunching gear boxes, especially 2nd and reverse, more noticable from cold.

Check the service history is good, they do use oil and if they have been poorly maintained they could have been ran low on oil and this can cause the timing chain to stretch.

But in general a good practical sized car that loves to be hammered and is as tough as old boots if looked after. Superb seats and gear stick position.

Make sure you get a looked after motor rather than the cheapest newest one you can find.

must admit it was the gear position that something i would love in every car more than the box itself. Feels like your in a touring car everytime you get in it,.

Use mine daily... bullet proof.

Other than its yearly service and mot at Honda, it wants for nothing. Had it a few years now and so tempted for a focus rs.. but having had an rs its hard to leave the reliability behind.

If your keen on getting a type r, go for it. Can't fault them

As I bought the car from Honda, they give me free mot's for life. I thought he we go, what they going to fail it on to get some money. Not a failure in 3 years which is nice.

Feel like I'm forever changing gear even though they have a wide rev range. Have to rev them hard to get them going..6th gear even on motorway is even quite high revs.

Had it to 135 the other day and felt like it still had a good some left....

No you're not. I think they're pretty wet too to be honest. I couldn't be arsed with owning one, all that revving and stuff, not my bag.

Got the new shape Fn2 Gt model and the old shape ep3 model, ep3 does feel more stronger and has the extra tourque making it feel faster, but both are good cars imo, i would stay with the new shape

I had an EK4 VTi, same as the Jordan that Ginge is talking about. Mine had around 180bhp and was brilliant for what it was, put it up against some Turbo'd stuff and it would start to struggle though.

I had an EK9 Type R which was far from standard, 211bhp @ wheels and that was a fucking weapon.. spoon stroker kit, quaife diff, m-factory gearkit, the works basically. I loved that car and it was properly quick, new M3 V8 couldn't get away from me on a fairly open a-road between the speeds 50 and just over double that, he was defo trying because he stopped and spoke to me for a while... I had it on the limiter (9000rpm) in 5th which showed about 160mph and although I never had it on the strip, the previous owner (my mate) ran a 13-flat 1/4 mile in the car with more to go.

My wee sister has a 2006 EP3 Premier and its phenominal, to be honest, I think that with a quaife diff, decent tyres and proper geometry dialled in it would be perfect.. you can seriously push on in the car without reaching ridiculous speeds on the road, I've said it before, but I would far rather grab the keys to her CTR than any of my previous Impreza Turbo/STi which have run nearly twice the bhp if I was going for a rip down my favorite piece of twisty b-road.

Cheers,
Grant

Wrong in lots of ways, the gearbox is so much better than the mk1 rs focus, evo 8+9,
dont know about the sti, but im sure you'll not find a closer ratio for the money, and they pull so well even if there is little torque.

Best car for the money on track hands down and bullet proof, mate has just sold his Evo X rs track car to get 1.

go further up and re-read....it was said it was the the best gearbox he had drove...i said it wasnt ive drove better with what id drove!!! and owned..there`s some better!! there was no mention of money...enzo probably would be better but i have no input on that as i havnt drove 1..

i have two mate`s that both have clio 172 that get thrashed with no drama`s attall...the civic is a very lovly car dont get my wrong as a track car but same fun cheaper in a clio imo...thats just my opinion...

I think for handling and really chucking about the Clio is probably better. I've heard a pretty nasty story about a Civic losing it over jumps, and it's probably inferior to the Clio in the way its set up for that kind of stuff.

But still for an every day car that you can live with and thrash I'd still say the Type R!
