Personally I would get in a garage if you could so it will thaw out naturally, or wrap the engine with a blanket to help it defrost then change coolant, I wouldn't pour anti freeze on top etc.

the heat of the running engine i would have thought would have thawed it. If its been frozen around the water pump prop there is a good chance it might have damaged the water pump when the engine started.

If it`s already been driven for 10 mins, just leave it half an hour and the thermal soak will thaw the motor out anyway..... then pop a hose off, drain some water and refill it with anti freeze

I had the same problem with my old Series 2 many moons ago. It had anti freeze in it ( brown stuff ) but it still froze. The car ran hot but and no hot air was coming out of the heater vents. When I stopped the heater matrix behind the dash board split spilling a large amount of water all over the interior... lovelly.

Good luck with it, hopefuly you wont have the same problem I had.

That's exactly what I've done in the past, though had to do a water pump change as well on the astra as it snapped the water pump shear pin, ace idea, saved the valves/cost.

Regarding no heaters,I had this on the Corsa this weekend, locate the two pipes going into the matrix and pour boiling water over the pipes, double check you've got flow through the rad, mine was frozen both ends!!!

My car came back to temp fine,I refilled the system with coolant but no heaters,I took it for a short drive with the temp just over 90 and all of a sudden the cabin was full of heat.I think you've just airlocked it.try moving the heater controls from warm to cold and back a few times to check the valves working ok.

Then, check for leaks, mine seems to heve developed one by the waterpump and it's dripping when running now,not badly but it's noticeable so another job to do!!!

knowing that you live in a ice cold country would it not be common sense to make sure that the car has coolant in? Even more so check it before winter comes
