Default '55 plate Mondeo trim rattles !

Noises are doing my head in....my question is about the small grille on top of the dash that clears the inside of the screen. I've tried taking it out and can't as it seems like it's screwed in but cannot see any. There also looks to be a small sensor of some kind under the plastic cap that looks like a screw would be under that - what it is and what does it do ? I've just snapped the cap so the sensor is now 'open'.

Ta !

If it's a purple sensor then it's the UV sensor for the climate control. Thinking about it, I don't think that grill can be removed can it?

Yep, it's purple mate. I take it there's no problem with it being uncovered ?

I don't know to be honest. The climate control uses it so in sunny days it can drop the tempreture etc.

it's the uv sensor and detects part of the ambient/direct sunlight for the climate

it's a different set up on the post 2003/4 cars to the pre but that grill is removable

give me a few minutes and i'll take some pics

Cheers Dojj ! I assume the climate will still work, it'll just drop the temperature a bit in the sunlight ?

there are 2 sensors, one for the actual direct sunlight reading and one by your left knee for the actual in cabin temprature reading and depending on what each one senses the climate does what it needs to do to keep the temp at the temp you have set

the cover over the top is probably there to make sure the sensors doesn't see direct sunlight, i left a thermometer in the van in direct sunlight during the summer and the temps showed 55 degrees c

I thought the grill by the light/sunglasses holder was the temp sensor and the one by your left leg was a microphone??

So how does that trim piece that goes in there actually come out (without using brute force and ignorance !) All I want to do is put some stuff behind it to stop it rattling !

Fuck it, losing interest in it right now. Just glued the purple plastic cover back that covers the sensor anyway.

Cheers Dojj
