Default Who uses what anti virus?

Got my laptop out yesterday after not using it for nearly 18 months. When it was all up and running a pop up stated that my anti virus was out of date. I had AVG 7.5 (or 7.something) free anti virus so thought i would just uninstall that and then put the latest free version on which is AVG 2011. It has slowed the operating of it down to a crawl - even to the point where you ask it to do something and you think it has frozen because its response is so delayed so i think i will uninstall it again.
Does anyone else use this latest free AVG version? What effects did it have on your PC? If not what (preferrably free) A.V. are you using? I have heard that Avast is quite good so any comments on this would be welcome.

I've tried Norton, McAfee, AVG (free), AVG (paid) and Avast... I'm currently on Kaspersky and it's without doubt the least intrusive and safest one I've had!! And it's only £20 for a year.

Is that a later revision of what they called Netguard or whatever it was? I tried Netguard for about a week on my home PC and it took so long on start up and was very slow in general operation so i took it off.

sandboxie and defensewall with system hardening, bulletproof and no antiviirus needed plus if i ever did get infected, not likely but i would just restore to an earlier image i have created on an external drive, perfect security along with restriction in firefox as well for online banking purposes.

At work we use Sophos, very secure but not my personal preference.
Whenever doing a reinstall I have a copy of a Corporate Symantec - Corporate copies are the best, very light weight.

However on my desktop running 7 I'm using the freebie Microsoft stuff and I'm impressed.. Impressed with a Microsoft product for the first time in atleast 10 years

I used kaspersky last year on my 3, but this year tried Norton 360, which I found a lot better and faster, but I'm only on a athlon 2600 processor!!
