Hi all,
I have a friend who has had his rover clutch replaced 4000 miles ago. His clutch went on a hill the other day and had to have the car recovered by the garage who fitted it.
On his receipt there is a warranty for 20,000 miles for the clutch but the garage has said it is driver error which has caused his clutch to go.
Now in my opinion the clutch should be replaced under warranty with it only doing 4,000 miles since it was fitted and feel the garage is trying to pull the wool over his eyes.
I'm looking for opinions of other garages on here to see what they would do in this situation as the garage I work at would replace this no problem and stand the cost.
Cheers
Dave

It depends what they class as driver error, if the cover has blued and the plate is in a bad way then he's been slipping the clutch.
If he drives normally I would ask to see the old parts when the get it to bits, you can tell alot just by looking.

I've advised him to get the old parts so I can check them. Surely even if you are the worst driver in the workd the clutch should last longer than that. He passed his test over 2 years ago aswell so should have decent clutch control.

Have they actually stripped the car down to look?I mean,if they've gone that far they'll know if it's driver error or not as 4k miles is stupidly low for a standard power car clutch to fail, even 20k sounds poor.
If they thought it was a faulty clutch then their labour should be covered by the clutch manufacturer.did they do the work or sub it out?I know this goes on a lot lately as a guy I know nearly got caught.he had a clutch done through a garage who subbed it and the dull cunt who fitted it left a rag on top of the engine which when he drove off,got tangled into the timing belt and bent a few pushrods.
The stupid twat tried to pretend it wasn't him who left it on the engine,it must have been my mate!!
It got sorted in the end,but not nice.

Yes they've stripped the car down and phoned my mate to say it's driver error. Apparently they've contacted their clutch supplier and they have said that it isn't covered under warranty.
They are a clutch specialists apparently who only fit and supply clutches.

having said that on any other car 4k is crap even if your a shit driver and slip the clutch a lot! i recon garage is pulling a fast one and a quick inspection will prove whether of not its driver error.

I'd put my car on it when it gets sent back to the supplier it'll come back as driver error...... always does always will. We don't even bother submtting a claim due to the fact its a waste of ink and paper...
We offer a no quible warrenty on parts we sell if no labour is submitted and always credit the parts to the customer.

Spoke to trading standards and they have said because the garage has been given authorisation to carry out the work required there is no come back. The garage bascially phoned asking him what to do when they found the clutch to be faulty. They had the car on the ramp in pieces and said that he can get it collected if needs be. The garage has been advised to keep the old parts so they can be inspected by someone else.

I think you could easily burn it out in 4000 miles if you constantly ride the clutch. Most people that do that dont even know their doing it
Any driving instructors on here? How often do they have clutches changed?
I know of some bloke who managed to burn his out on a fairly new audi in the snow earlier this year. Dont know how many miles it had done but it went from being fine to hardly being able to move the car in one trip because he was clueless as to what he was doing
If your friend drives normally though the part must be at fault???
