Depends what you need it for! If its daily use, Makita, Dewalt etc are the tits. But they come in a bit more expensive (or they did when I bought mine)
I got a Ryobi job thats sweet. You can buy all-sorts of other bits that the battery fits...radio's, mini flourescent strip lights (ace for working on cars at night), saws....all-sorts. They came in a bit cheaper and has lasted me well!

all my stuff is makita. had the red batteried range up till abt 3 weeks ago... then went and spent £1k on all new 18v makita stuff. best by far... only dewalt stuff i own is a chop saw and a radial arm saw dating from 1986! that was bought new... newer dewalt stuff is shit.

I will second the panasonic gear. I have got the drill/driver, impact driver and sds. They arent the cheapest in the world but with the li ion batteries they will last forever.
