i personally turboed my mk5 xr3i 130, 1800 zetec, and ran it on std management for a week until i put MS on it. TBH it was very lean even with the slightest of boost, i never put my foot right down for the whole week! was monitering AFR with wideband, std management just doesnt work with the boost. Leave the wastegate rod off till you get some proper management mate, thats my advice

you will need to uprate the clutch, and i would consider a gearbox change to mtx 75, also the injectors will need changed, are they side feeds on that engine?

Could well be side feeds, I will tell him to have a look, he's been looking at megasquirt, I think there are some saab injectors that he can use which will be suitable.

i would not be running any boost on standard management as it will run very lean, very hot and given enough time (and depending on how much boost and whether you boot it around) you will melt a piston making that engine scrap.

i'd get the aftermarket management and everything else and do it in one go and if the engine is standard i wouldnt be running much boost and would be staing within standard rev limit too.

saabs are all bosch end feeds i think, subaru do big side feeds that can be made to fit with a bit of work to the rail.

Standard ECU can only read vacume not positive pressure from forced induction.

Your mate needs to sort the management out or it will end in tears, And oily broken engine parts

Cossie managment is not ideal, something lke megasquirt that will run the twin coils wasted spark would be a better option, it will also work no problem with the 36-1 toothed wheel and can be tuned with a laptop at home and on the road at no cost.

Plus the car legaly must run a cat (although im sure it wont) you can run ms with a narrow band lambda in closed loop off boost to make the cat function corectly, and also tune the fuel for emmisions.
