topping cossy up with oil today,someone came over yakking,dropped bonnet forgetting to put oil cap on,one hard run later,oil all over engine and timing belt so looks like a new belt,only put one on it 1500 miles ago.

i wouldnt just wash the belt oil damages some types of rubber, a cambelt being one of them
you were lucky tho mate of mine did this and the oil set alight on the exhaust manifold he managed to put it out before any major damage was done tho fortunatley

I did this on my second saff the day after i bought it

THen the next day i smelt smoke and assumed it was burning off more of the oil, one round about later i realised the whole engine bay was on fire not oil related tho. ARSE.
