Need a small, favour if so, I want to come and have a look at your front suspension top mounts or photos of them, as hers has a gap of about 1/2 inch between the metal and rubber top mount?

Now i changed them and its still the same, just trying to figure out whats wrong?

Nothing, they are all like that !

I did a service on a Puma a few months back and noticed that was like it as they have similar suspension setups.

Everyone I spoke to told me they are like that from the factory

Hmm, as its just failed the MOT for front macpherson struts have excessive movement at the upper attachment? and the rtop mounts are just over a year old now, cant belive they are knackered allready? as the previous ones lasted 8 years.

Odd, I had been doing a engine swap so whilst the car was in the air the top mounts sat on the strut tops, as soon as I lowered it back on the floor I noticed there was a big gap between the top mount and strut top.

It turned out the car had just had new struts and top mounts so I assumed they had been put together wrong and took them all to bits to find the problem, everything seemed ok and typically once I had asked a garage apparently its how they all are so I'd wasted my time !

Is it the same garage you always use ?

Nope, was a nationwide autocenter she dropped it off at before work, as was in need of an mot quick.

forgot to update, it,

took it last saturday to another test centre, and this time it failed on a worn front tyre, whuch is what i thought it should fail on the 1st time tested!
