Hi all

Trying to work out the following, length of side A, and angles B and C. Drawing is not to scale! If anyone could help I would much appreciate it, been trying to work it out for ages now, come up with different answers every time

Thanks

Split it in to a rectangle and a triangle.

A= square root(16^2 + 28.4^2)

= 32.6

Does the same principle help you get the angles?

I keep coming up with 32.6, so we'll agree on that one! Just the angles bit I'm stuck on! Might go get my school text books out the loft

The other info helpful there is all angles inside triangle add up to 180, so B+C=90

You can make triangles out of anything

Draw a line down from angle B to make a right angle with the bottom line.

Now you can apply pythag

Why not draw it to scale and use a angle measure thingy (protractor i think) and measure A with a ruler?

Because there is no need.

SOHCAHTOA

Sin() = Opp / Hyp;
Cosine() = Adj / Hyp;
Tangent() = Opp / Adj

Rich Learn SOHCAHTOA and pythagoras and also the clockface rule for estimating sines in your head.

Its useful in a number of ways as well as doing calculations in your head for judging distance for overtaking etc.

Once youve done it a lot, you learn the numbers in your head so dont actually have to calculate it to get a approx answer.

If you have to be doing calculations to decide whether you should be overtaking, you shouldn't be overtaking!

Sohcahtoa for overtaking?

I did learn it at school, although I was preoccupied with squeezing the girl's leg that I used to sit next to though

Might dig my books out again and brush up on it sometime!!
