Default electrical problems

hi i have a escort 1.4 lx . 1991.. the car runs well . but just lately i am having a few faults with the electrics. 4 or 5 weeks ago my horn came on and would,nt turn off. i had to disconnect the wire. itis still disconected. then 1 afternoon 3 weeks ago the car would,nt start. the local garage came to my aid. and disconected the starter motor wire and got it to start from the battery. reconected it and it has been fine since. now i have another problem. the radio cd player turns its self off every now and again. there is power there as i can eject the cd. it comes back on if i use 1 of the electric window switches. depending on up or down determines on or off. the drivers side window 1 or 2 times a day decides it wont open or close. when i turn the car off and power off. and then turn it back on the window then works. its doing my head in as i have no clue what is happening . and i,m worried what will be next. god knows what will happen if the lights turn off . pls give me some ideas of this problem

Some really weird problems there, I would also be looking at something like the fusebox, and possibly water getting in there ?

+1,it's really common on them mate.pretty sure there's someone offering exchange units on eBay for a very reasonable price.

I had it 13 years ago on my xr2i so it's hardly a new thing now!!there could also be a good chance of a decent replacement from the scrappy as it's been a problem for so long it's likely the majority have been replaced.

I ended up running new wiring to my fans, horn etc as I had no idea about the fusebox probs and I wanted to spin about on a Friday night!!!!
