I have one. Awesome cars. Does pretty much all you could ever need. Not much goes wrong to be honest. Tyres arent cheap if you have the 19s and fuel is pretty bad for a diesel. I get an all round average of between 24 and 26.

The guy on here had modified his pretty far hadn't he?? RS500 intercooler, full exhaust etc were the last things I think I read about him doing... and he was worrying about shitting the gearbox as his was the earlier softer version.
Cheers,
Grant

Yeh bit of a difference from the guy above my last post saying 30 and 50... obviously another one of these people who listen to rumours without any experience. Everyone i know with one of these cars gets similar to me. Mine is not remapped but i dont think you need it. Plenty quick enough the way they are. Might get it done at some point though to improve the economy if anything.
If you drive like a saint on the motorway you can get it to show 40mpg.

What do pictures prove you utter cunt? Well done you've driven it a couple times a thats all you need to know. I use mine every day. My pal uses another one which is remapped everyday too and they both do the same mpg give or take one or two.
Anyway the point is they're shite on diesel. If you want a economical 5 series get a 520.
Heres mine.

Driven a couple of times few airport runs, then to TOTB another 2 hour drive, so does the MPG change if your only using it for a day at a time compared to everyday?
here a few comments for you from 535d owners you pleb
"Before this the car would hunt between 50 mpg and 16 mpg on the gauge at 70 mph on the motorway. Now the motor is happier and never drops under 30 mpg. Now best I have got is 48 mpg at a steady 70 and high 30's easily achieveable. It takes a very heavy foot to take it down into the 20's. "
"
if its any use my current economy is showing 43.4mpg and thats with mine running rubbish at the moment, at a steady speed at around 1500rpm my revs are bouncing up and down by around 200rpm and you feel the power surge on and off, before this i used to regularly see 45mpg at a steady 70mph
"
"i'll try get one showing 800+ in next few weeks, mines going into pmw next tuesday to sort out all my issues, hoping my mpg will improve afterwards having previously seen 45-46mpg, wouldn't know where to start on giving advice lol"
"
Most impressively, overall we’ve managed to beat BMW’s official claimed combined figure of 40.9mpg. Our 41.7mpg return isn’t bad given that our offices are based in central London, I travel home in the middle of rush hour and my weekends are filled with short trips"
need i go on?

You are trying to tell me how much fuel MY CAR uses you tit. Yes on a motorway run to the airport or down to TOTB on the motorway for two hours you can get over 30 but im giving an honest everyday, use it normally, view.
As for that screen ive read that before as well..... funnily enough before i bought my one. No chance can you get that MPG. My pal just took his remapped one down south and back and drove sensibly to see what he got and he managed 550 to a tank.
Im sure i could bring the tank and go and take a picture showing those figures too if i reset it while cruising steadily at 51.

I am not gonna argue when i experience it day in day out. I WISH my car did 30 and 50.
The guy asked what they're like. He doesnt wanna know what you MIGHT be able to get if you potter about gently caressing the throttle trying to salvage every last mile out the tank. I posted normal use. I have had is showing worse if i use it hard.

I also have never seen one do 50mpg , i was in a customers 335 d the other day (same engine) it was averaging 22mpg obviously been driven hard. Even to average 40mpg in a 535 you must be driving like a saint. if you get 30 mpg out them using them normal your doing ok. but might i ad the cars are awesome & on the to get list

carlos, as i said "near 50" on a run is not really that unusual from what i have seen with my own eyes, and going a quick search on google brings up many 42-48mpg figures also from other 535d owners i would class 48mpg as near to 50 personally as for driving like a saint thats @ 70mph which is the speed limit usually on a run and we all do that dont we?

Be aware that the inlet manifold flaps break off and destroy valves and pistons and sometimes turbo's. An easy and cheap fix is to remove the manifold (18 nuts),remove the actuating rod and the plates the flaps swivel on and replace with a blanking plate kit. Keep the vacuum control module/the two plugs and vacuum pipes connected.
The manifold is only a half hour job to remove/replace and the blanking kit around £40.Can save £000's...
