Default Loom braiding tips

Any got any tips on braiding looms? I've done my HT leads as practice which came out really well;

But now starting my Cossie loom. I've done the injector bank, Air temp, water temp and TPS side, but I'm guessing I will have to cut/take the plugs off the link ends to feed everything in? They have to come off to feed the loom through the inner wing anyway, but it there any easier ways of doing it.

Anyone also got any tips on removing the plug ends themselves? I couldn't for the life of me remove them. I know they have 2 little pins which need to be pushed to release the wiring pins, but just couldn't get them out.

They'll have the tool you need for removing the pins, cant help you with the braiding as I've never done it before (yet!)
But looks good so far

Good job on the braiding. Are you using standard heatshrink or the adhesive lined stuff? I normally use the adhesive lined for sound/video/control cables as it doesn't slide off. Downside is over short lengths it's too hard and breaks loose so maybe not so good in an engine environment.

Not sure though if you've used one size too big on everything? Looks a little bit loose? It doesn't particularly matter, just a case of aesthetics. On the flip side, if you use a size too small then you'll see the wire colours through the braid and it'll be an arse to fit on longer stretches!

That's the 6mm which is the smallest VWP do. I'm using regular heatshrink. Still can't find a tool which removes injector/plug ends.

Cheers, Neil. TBH this is the only part of the loom you'll see so I want it to look right.

You do realise that that braiding melts at about 200 degrees C? I can't see the braid on the HT leads lasting very long.

exactly daz!!!

bit too close to the exhaust IMO.

You need the connector release tool. the durite ones sold at polevolt/VWP are ok but not the best, you can get some better ones from specialist tool places but they arent cheap.

Not only do you need to be inspecting your loom for obvious defects but you want to be measuring the resistance of the wires. Remember your using an almost 20 year old cossie loom which will not be at its best from a wiring perspective.

In the std amp connectors shown here you can remove the pins with a pin or very small screwdriver.
Some proper remover tools for just 1 pin type are over £100, so not feasable really for this.
