I was talking to a family member at a family party at the weekend. He had a mondeo diesel with 350.000 miles on it. All he done was service it and changed the timing belts. He sold it a year ago and the car is still going. Just goes to show if you look after them they will go forever.

Mk4 escort 1.8 D I had was crushed with 268,000 miles on it, body was well gone but engine was fine, even better after some pump mods, had indicated 112 mph once, think the speedo was tad enthusiastic!!

A Ford engine? 400k miles? Still perfect? Thats fucking amazing... I honestly didn't think that was possible.

its usually the bodies that go before the engines do....in theory an engine will go on for several hundred thousend miles before it becomes unuseable.

They are noisy brutes but tough if looked after, must admit despite being slow my mk4 diesel was the only diesel car I've driven that I actually like!!
Would seriously consider a diesel td in me cossie if needed, but it's just done 200,000 miles, and I've just rebuilt so that's another 200,000 to go, which is around 5-6 years for me.
