Default Noise from front during cornering and braking....*PROBLEM SOLVED*

OK, got a noise coming from the front of the car during cornering and braking.... It sounds very similar to wheel bearings, but is not this is i have had 2 new bearings on the front today, took it for a drive and its still the same.

When cornering slowly you can hear like a slight whine....very similar to when your brake pads are low....
The same when stopping/appling the brake its the same noise....

In a straight line its fine when driving normal......

It seems to do it under cornering load and brake load....

I have just replaced the discs and pads about 6 weeks ago
New front wheel bearings today...

Still the same........Any ideas

i had a noise like that and it was tyres, hence i never buy cheap tyres again, mine sounded like a wheel bearing and you could hear at low speeds or cornering.

HHHHHHHHHHmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

My Tyres are VERY VERY hard tbh......And i think they are filled with "Nitrogen" or something like that, thats what they said when i got them anyway.....

Maybe worth letting them down and filling them back up???

What make of tyre is it mate?? It might just be a hard compound tyre rather than down to what its filled with.

Cheers,

The air in them won't make any difference, it's the compound/tread pattern that'd change road noise.

My mates van had those tyres on from Bridgestone too. Sounded like a bearing had gone. Changed the tyres and it was much quieter.

It would make a knocking noise. Bet you it's your tyres causing all the noise

not neccesarily a knocking they can give all sorts of strange noises.
just a thought but are your tyres rotational? if so are the treads facing the right way? allthough more likely to give noise all the time its still worth checking

Marky boy...

1st off - yeh tyres... I've had similar on other car - serious.

2nd..... my mondeo did this but ford refused to change the wheel bearing - can you remember what it did when it eventually failed. Took out the whole right hand bottom arm/disc/pad/abs/driveshaft/hub. Ł1700 plus labour and vodka.

The ONLY time it would make the noise was under load when cornering at about 40mph+.

Are the bearings in straight in the hub?

I had this noise on my mondeo and had a new wheelbearing, it was still the same after. I only found out as the brake discs kept gradually warping, i took a guess the hub wasnt square, skimmed the warp out of the brake disks and all was ok, just lived with the odd noise every now and again

Right....just been out testing things...ie when it does it ect..

It makes the noise alot when breaking from 10mph to stop......you can really hear it, which points to the brakes, but i have new discs and pads about 2 months..

And also....why would it make the noise when going left and right...i even went to an empty car park and weaved the car as if going through some cones and it did it alot, while under load in gear and also just rolling........

Surley if it was tyres it would do it in a straight line.....it is the usual road noise...

Could it be a caliper issue.... while weaving could the calipers be sticking ect???

once had a laguna come in to work with similar problem and that turned out to be the balljoint heat shield touching the disc intermittantly because the locating pip wasnt in the gap on the hub, its a longshot but you never know

posible that when cornering and breaking you are pushing more force onto the tyres causing the noise?

Tiff if the tyres need changing (possibly) move the back to the front just to see, wont cost you much, if anything.

Also, if were on about the mondy, check out the stabilizers, make sure they havent worn, cheap to replace though if they have.

I had the exact same problem on my ST mate and have put it down to my tyres!! I also have kumho ecstas on the front. Swapped front to back (had a a pair of avons on the rear) and the noise was gone! Certainly doesnt pay to buy cheap tyres!

Sometimes tyres get feathered on the edges which cause a similar noise to wheel bearings. It sounds like a wurring noise also can be heard when slowing down. I would swap the wheels with another set just to eliminate the wheels.

Now you know it's the tyres, and nothing serious, can you not just live with the noise?
