is it untransferable as its not road worthy, or is there a proecedure for this?

I'm pretty sure that the car has to have a valid MOT mate... this is the problem that Lambchop has with his Saph as its part stripped its un-MOTable but there is a registration on the car which he wants to retain. It seems mental to me, if you're the registered keeper and want the plate then you should be able to retain it whether the car is roadworthy or not IMO.

Oh, whats the reg on the BMW?? Must be something special to warrant that sort of valuation!!

Cheers,
Grant

Technically the car should be MOT'd taxed etc. But I know a couple of people who have written to the DVLA explaining the circumstances and they have been able to transfer the plate from cars with no engine and one that was little more than a rolling shell

the reg is the old style with the age letter at the end, first three letters are LEO so its gotta be worth a few quid!

cars in good nick, other than its been standing fo nearly five years, its a '96 328i coupe....so only worth peanuts!

Really? Cool.

How long had the cars been off the road before hand? I have a feelign that if it's been a while it might not be so easy

I know it's not the case here, but you can transfer a plate if the cars been off the road for 6 months or less,I know because I did it with my motorbike.

Back to the subject though, what's actually wrong with the car?they tend to fail on very little so would it be worth trying to get a ticket? Failing that,if you know a tester then you should be ok.

As long as the car has been taxed within the last 12 months you can retain the reg no.

Dave's car was not long out of mot and had been on the road only a few months before, in situations like that they may give you the benefit of the doubt but if the cars been off the road for a number of years then no chance.

How far off getting an mot is the beemer? Why was it taken off the road?

its been off the road since 06, had a new head fitted back then, and it wasnt running right, so he left it at the garage, then brough it home in 07 when the mechanic had no more room for it

tax expired july 06, mot same time ish. it might get through an mot but i expect it would need, new brakes, tyres fluids etc

structurally its fine, apart from the moss, and my friend thinks she saw a wasp nest on one of the wheel arches once

I tried getting a number plate recently off a car stolen in 2002, which was taxed 13 months before it was stolen, so the DVLA have refused it.
