The bodyshop were I used to work never repaired bumpers, even ones with light scuffs, they just fit new ones. One of the lads bumped his Octavia and managed to get one from a VRS out of the skip, all it needed was a quick sand to get the scuffs out and repainting...actually less work to repair than getting a new one and swapping the trims, fogs etc that the bodyshop had done but seeing as the insurance company was picking up the bill the more they can charge for the better

Can you not order a pre painted bumper from the dealer? order the bits that actually need doing, fit them yourself , then sell the removed bumper and give the guy a drink if your quids in.

fair play for doing the right thing though, but anyone can see that it's not that much damage in Ł notes

if i bumped the neighbours car i'd be willing to fork out for someone to fix it, but this way they'll get a courtesy car as well probably

we often binned mint bumpers, sometimes purely because a wing was bein changed and it had streached the fixing or something shit like that

theres millions on ebay, scuffed/bumped bumpers are big business

Why dont you offer to replace the plate and touch up the corner cracks and give them Ł250 in cash ??

that way the car is fixed plus money towards something, maby say otherwise they will have to go through insurance and then its a claim etc try scare them.

Seems silly doing all that to be honest most people would just drive away and not care.

if you do get dealer to do it, keep all the old bits and sell on as someone else said

Suzuki bumpers come pre painted, there is no reason for new clips on the bumper as the corners are held in with a screw either dice and some clips either side and some under the bottom and they are easy to remove, only a monkey will brake them removing them, the fitter would only get 0.5 to strip and 0.5 to refit, the foam impact damper shouldn't be damaged with that hit, for any reason the bumper needed to be painted they will only get 1.5 for prep and 1.0 for paint, so all in that's 3.5 not 10 hours

Last one I had didn't,primed only it said on system?Suzuki swift 55 plate.it was a customer job so I bought Hadrian in the end, cracking fit too.

To answer some questions, yes the labour is high,I'd say hour off/on,hour prep, hour paint, hour polish, clean rebuild so four in total, unlikely to need blending on a new car in and with it being straight red so that would be about another hour or so on top BUT as it's generally insurance quotes main dealers give out, then it will be ott, especially as the assessor will knock it right down.

Personally,I'd tell someone to fuck off if they wanted the old parts back, that's the bodyshops perogative to either throw them out or sell them on/repair them.

if that was my bill i would smash his car in and do a proper job on the car not a small crack to a bumper i would make sure they right the bloody thing off just think 800+ quid they are mugging u off mate everyone can see it, if you do pay it then unlucky for you but i would seriously look into getting a mate or someone to go round and fuck his car up proply once it all died over.
but then its probly best to get it out the way and forget about it even tho its a right kick in the balls

Personally looking at that, we'd charge about Ł150 at my old mans garage. That bumper is repairable and if anything it looks like its just cracks in the paint work.

Dealer just wants to shaft you!

mate, i clipped a car in my works van this week...a '10' vauxhall insignia...the damage was bent lip on the bottom of the wing and 2 broken clips and scrached bumper. the chap took it to his garage full spray on both items repaired clips was Ł260, he's happy as i told him to get me a quote where he would be happy with the outcome. but this was cash or it would have been 500+!!!!!!

No craig, not even losing my protected no claims. thought i would, but aslong as i dont make another claim in the next five years, i can keep my no claims, and protect them, if i make another claim, i lose my protected, and if i make another claim after that, then i lose my no claims all together, so its not that bad mate, ive got another two strikes to go lol

shit happens mate, its my fault, in two ways really, one, i left it in gear, and two, i wasnt even in the car when i started it, i opened the door, put the key in the ignition, turned it, and away the car went, if i was sat in it, i could have dipped the clutch, but as i wasnt, i was left stood there looking like a numpty, with the keys in my hand, because the key split into two, where you take the key to bits to fit a new battery in it, i had that bit, and the RCL part in my hand, with the rest of my keys, the actual key was in the ignition, so picture my embarassment, looking at my keys like WTF ?

You sir sound like a grade A prick.

Since when has it become a problem with the guy whose car HE hit

His issue is with the bill at the BODYSHOP.

So why the fuck would he want to damage the car AFTER the repair. That fucks up the neighbour and not the garage doing the work

Honestly what a tosser.

why should the guy have to get his bumper repaired on a one year old car - its not his fault.

he should (also I would too) that the car be put back to the condition it was in before it got damaged - so new bumper, etc

you would not be happy if the shoe was on the other foot would you?

fiddy's only arguing about the cost of the repairs from the main dealer, not that he won't pay, as it is he's gone through the insurance who will deal with it so he's not said that he's going to fuck the guy off for a number plate has he

if the guy was being a prick about it then yes, do something, but he' snot, so let it go

That is brilliant, well not for you but you know what i mean.

Seems you have taken the best route though if you'r getting to keep all your no claims and have another couple of strikes before you lose any.

Slightly off topic, but is there any wonder that insurance costs are just ridiculous when main dealers are pricing repairs like this?

There may be some truth in younger male drivers being more accident prone as a rule, but the vehicle repair industry needs to accept some blame for the daft hike in insurance prices if this is the sort of crap they are spewing out for the thousands of similar small bumps around the country.

Take it to a non franchised bodyshop and you will get a perfect repair for maybe Ł150-200.

Its main dealers taking advantage of people who believe their work is superior to anyone elses.

agree on both fronts, i have NO issue with my neighbour, it was MY fault, if i was him, i would do EXACTLY the same thing, and take it to a main dealer, and as i said, i fell guilty/sorry because if i was him, i would be pissed all the way off, and to be fair, he took it very well, didnt kick off, didnt raise his voice, he was obviously pissed off, but he knew it was an accident, and accidents happen.

as for funny, on reflection, if id watched it happen to someone else, and they were stood with there keys in there hand, and a dumb look on there face, i would to, i must have looked like a rite retard.

a couple of good mates own bodyshops, one ive known since i was a kid, he would do it as a favour, for cost, and a few pints, would cost me peanuts, but again, as ive said, i understand why my neighbour wants to take it to a main dealer, thats his choice, its his car, so fair enough, and as its my insurance thats now taking the hit, not me, ill leave it between my neighbour and my insurance as to how, and where it gets repaired.

your doing the right thing, and imo so is he.

for an old escort or fiesta yeah just get to halfrauds for some rattle cans and some sand paper put not for a new car like that, and atleast with new fittings etc itll be like a new car not a repaired one. i fully understand why hes doing that, and your being a man by owning up to it and sorting it out for him

You serious? You would go to those length cos you don't want pay for someones car that YOU have damaged?

That guy has every right to go to the main dealer. Yes its a high price to pay but to actually go as far as you would?

Before you say 'You don't know me' thats very true but you also don't know me but can honestly say on behalf of PF, you have made yourself look like a total arse with those comments.

Your no different to those who'd cause a accident and then accuse the other person for being at fault when its clearly your own fault.

If you crashed your own car you'd get it repaired. But if some1 hit you, you'd want it as good as new as it wasn't your fault, so why should you have it repaired to a worse state.

I think the best way is to say, yes replace all the stuff, but I want all the odl stuff. You'll probably be able to put it on ebay for a few quid. (then again, they'll probably deliberately break it taking it off.)

Thats fair too. But in all honesty, i'd do my best to let the guy know it can be repaired to a high standard from another garage and not get ripped off from a dealer.
