We have just mounted our 46" tv on the wall but need a cupboard to put the amp, PS3 and Wii in but we can't decide wheather to have one under the tv or in the cornor and hide all the wires.

Anyone got any pictures of there TV's mounted on the wall so we can get a few idea's

How big is your room? Is the TV on a chimney breast? A nice idea if it is, is to board-out the chimney breast and build-in some plasterboard shelves (or glass in a PB alcove) in the fireplace void.

If you can put up a pic or two of your room and/or a sketch of the layout I'll give you my 2p'th

heres my new 50" bad lad hanging off the wall , iam going to put glass shelfs in the fire place for ps3 and buyray etc .










the other one will have my hifi init when i get a stand ,
got to save thou as its Ł400
thats why the cars going so slow lol

I will get some pictures later today Chris, no its not on a chimney breast, its on the wall between a window and the patio doors, i also forgot to say the TV is on a tilt and swivel mount as we need to have the TV turned abit

http://merifon.altervista.org/TestDVD.html - this setup DVD is good starting point to set the basics properly.

For accurate colour calibration though you need specialist kit and software - best to look on avforums in the ISF/Calibration sections.

It was a quick photoshop as I needed a banner until my banner man can do something nice for the site.


The plastering is hell. So much mess its untrue, and finding a good one is very hard, especially if you favour painted walls as I do.

AGREE!!!! ive had 3 different plasterers now! I think ive finally found a decent one!

weve had three whole bedrooms plastered inc ceilings (two completley de-lathed and re-boarded) and a complete hallway and study

we're painting all walls too, so i have been ultra fussy over the quality.

Its real hard to find any labourers who want to do a decent job it seems. Plasterers vary in quality so much its untrue. Like you we did every wall in the house, some back to brick, and most ceilings also renewed as the lime and lat was all falling apart. Painfull, but happy with it now I must admit. Just a kitchen to build and then can start on the outside,

Once you find a good plasterer you never let em go lol, we've been using the same 1 for about 10 years now, he's done most of my house now and it is all spot on as like you I only like new plaster and paint.

before anyone ask's why we put it there its because the room is an awkward shape, the sofa is where the photo was taken,

the t.v actualy comes out further and faces straight on if we need it to or goes flat against the wall

Here's my nearly finished lounge (first attempt!), mounted my 55" 3d led tv onto a false fireplace i made. Just got to decide what to put on the walls either side of the false fireplace (something colourful to take the black and white away a bit....)

I'd probably look at building a unit all the way along that wall (or buying one that fits). Gets you some useful storage and would tie the TV into the room a little more, especially if it were a dark grey / black.

Any plans to add speakers at a later date? While you've got the wall chased out I'd be tempted to run some speaker cable in (3, for L,R,C) so that you've not got to cut the whole wall open again if you did decide to go that way. The cable we use, Van Damme Blue, is very resonably priced - such that I'd rather put some in and never use it than have to open the wall again!

Over that distance I'd be happy running HDMI - see http://cpc.farnell.com/kramer/c-hdmi...tt=kramer+7.6m - no need for CAT5/6 and converts.

The floor is actually ok as it goes, I was worried about dogprints / scratching but with anything you get what you pay for and I paid a little more for decent tiles. Its heated underneath as well but to be honest they dont get too cold.

I do like 'The Force's setup on there yes, but my room is used, am sure he doesnt live there!!

TV has been lowered since I took the pics so a nice comfy level now.

Danneth - Cheers . Quite lucku as the front window doesnt really get the Sun and the back has a conservatory so no blairing light. The lights on the ceiling are on seperate switched (2 above TV, 2 either side and rear ones) and can control them all through my Harmony 1000

Nice setup, Chris. I do agree with Westy ref height of tv, but can't fault the design and workmanship there! Have you considered covering in the speakers with some black speaker cloth? Might neaten it up even further?

cjwood - i did think of that mate but I decided to keep them white as once the led's go in the pockets it should light up a treat, got a better pic of them i'll upload later!! TV is about 5 inches lower now so perfect height for me when sitting down . Still getting used to 3D though, really makes my eyes tired after a while!

Thanks for the advice Chris we have thought about building a unit all the way along the wall and even up to the ceiling but tbh we wont the floor space for little un to play, also i need to buy 2 new HDMI cables i have the speakers that come with the surround i just need to run them!

What speaker package do you have?

One thing I would say is that you're going to struggle to get stereo effect AND a coherant image with seating position as is. It's probably worth having a play around before you decide on positions - forget about the stereo effect (i.e. a wide soundstage) and concentrate on getting a clear sound for speech - there's nothing worse than hearing flying bullets in full glory but struggling to hear what people are saying!

The ideal solution would be to mount the LCR speakers off the TV/bracket and have them either side of the display (in fact a soundbar would have worked well). This should be achievable with some box-section steel, threaded rod and a tin of black spray paint.

Speakers are the one's that come with the amp its a Samsung HT-Z310 1000W it come with the TV

I know the set out ant good but not much we can do as its the only place the sofa fits/look right!

Fair do's. As I say, the ideal solution for you would be a soundbar, but I'd guess you don't want to spend another 500/600quid on a new speaker set.

What I would say, then, is leave enough cable spare that you can go to a soundbar (sits beneath the tv) in the future.

I was going to put te centre speak and the other 2 front speakers under the TV in a row and then the rear ones either side of the sofa

I have been looking into buying a wall mountable HDTV but im abit worried as the walls in my room are really thin plasterboard and to me it seems like it will just pull itself out the wall lol
