Focus trackday car any good?
I'm thinking of buying a Focus 2.0 16v zetec to turn into a budget trackday car.
I figured just over 2k will buy the car & sort the handling & brakes out, not owning a focus zetec before i'm unsure the engine will be quick enough, dont get me wrong i know the handling & braking play a major part but i dont want it to be slug.
What do think?

Standard they're not massively fast, but the 2.0 can be had to 150bhp quite easily - ST170 manifold, K&N panel, decent exhaust and bluefin should do it IIRC. Alternatively it can be turbo'd, but that'll cost a wee bit more lol.
Stripped out it may be quick enough to get you started anyway - kerb weight is only 1127kg for a 3door IIRC, and that's fully trimmed.

Why noy look for a light damaged or stolen recovered ST170, get one with full leather and flog the interior off, should give you enough to get a decent pair of bucket seats & harnesses.
From my own experience of stripping out the interior on my FRS, it makes a big difference to performance.

Yeah, there's a huge amount of crap in them that you can strip out to make it much lighter, even the basic model comes with leccy windows, central locking and so on so plenty of weight saving there.the motors do seem a bit flat on them but it's a pretty tuneable old bird and with the weight saving, excellent handling out of the box you'll be on your way.
