Tuning CVH MK3 3i
I'm looking at buying at 3i and am wondering what type of engine tuning they benefit from most? and what kind of realistic gains i can see from cam, headwork, filter/ex manifold and system?
Also what are they standard? 105?
Any help appreciated
Also i know an RST engine would make it better etc... but i'm keeping it standard

Yes mate, 105 standard.
Head, cam, inlet, filter and exhaust mods are far from standard..
I really wouldn't bother to be honest, tidy up what you have instead, replace like for like.. You'll lose far more in fuel economy then you will gain in performance, which in my opinion just isn't worth it for a 130bhpish 25mpg car..
Filter and exhaust is all I would do..
Big-Dan.

Yeah totally get what your saying mate!
What the best type of handling mods? As in what brakes are easy upgrades etc?
I'm new to the ford scene!

Brakes wise-
RS Turbo discs and calipers are a simple upgrade, Cossie and Focus ST170 brakes are also very popular (and work). A set of S2 RS Turbo drums for teh back are very simple but effective.
Suspension-
Koni dampers and a good set of lowering springs not dropping the car more than about 25mm. From there polybush what you can and enjoy it.
Tuning-
leave it as a panel filter and a backbox.
My brother spent a packet on his old Orion 1.6i Ghia (same engine, Bosch K-Jetronic), he ran a polished and ported head, Kent cam & vernier, Ashley 4 branch manifold and system and a panel filter. All that equated to just 125bhp and it wasn't very nice to drive in all honesty, was thirsty and not very quick. Not bad for a first build at the age of 16 though
