Default SportKa

Hi,

I am looking for a new dailydriver and the SportKa does really look nice, but I have heard really bad stories about the fuel consumption of those.

Maybe someone knows a bitabout them?

Would have thought a 1.6 8v would be economical in a light weight car.

I bought one for my mum to replace her puma which was getting a bit rusty.

The sport ka handles really well and looks good and is economical easy to get 40 mpg on a long run.

However in most other respects its a real let down the gearing is too low its screaming its head even at 90, its noisy, the engine is not very nice to rev hard, the suspension is rock hard so potholes, speed humps, rough roads are a pain in the neck.

Tyres are expensive as well as they are an odd size like 205/45/16 or something similar..

It could have been a great card but Ford didnt really make a good job of it, a normal ka is actually better to drive on the motorway (how daft is that?).

Look out for worn suspension bushes, rusty boot and fuel filler, a/c not working etc.

The noise is bit of a problem. Cos thats one of the reasons why I want to replace my mk3 fiesta. Thought cos it is a newer car it must be pretty quiet. Will go for a test drive in the next few days and look how it is.

The other option is a mk6 fiesta 1.6, maybe not that sporty but a bit more comfy.

Would a mk5 fiesta zetec s not be better? I loved mine when I had it throaty little revvy engine and handled well enough. Pretty cheap to run as well.

sportka is designed for twisties so its no surprise the noise at high speed isnt great.

Good fun cars to drive, could do with more power though.

only thing with fuel economy is yes you can get 40mpg but its too fun to thrash it everywhere that simply you wont get anywhere near that

Wank cars tbh,not really much quicker than a normal Ka,thrown together by ford as a Money maker IMHO.crap on petrol, where does 40 mpg come from!!unless you get an se there's less inside than a collection.they rust pretty much where all the ka's do,fuel filler, sills, door bottoms/rear quarter where the seat belt catches.

Alternator is a bastard to do and goes with no warning, alarms play up,they tend to eat tyres as well, lower arms, bushes, shock mounts, heater valves/blowers.

IMHO for the price they cost a zetec s fiesta is a much nicer car and outside the blue oval you'll get a lot more for your money, just avoid French(starts massive debate!!!!!!).
