Default Selling RS's

Just thought that I would post this up to see if I am the only one who feels like this,

Basically I've just sold my saff cossie and a few months ago I sold my mk1 escort mexico prior to actually selling both of them I was swamped with people texting me, emailing me and pm'ing,

How much would you take, CASH right now! - Then when i say i hear nothing

I'm not gonna come all that way down without agreeing a price first - Its up for £3795 ono so if you ain't prepared to pay somewhere close to that wtf are you looking at it for!

Has it got a full ford service history and low miles? - no mate its a 35 year old escort

Has it had any paint? - yes, then they sound gutted! its up for £3795 not 8k concours money

Your photos ain't that good mate can you get better ones? - what happened to the old days when i used to go and see a car based on a poxy little black and white photo in the auto trader!

I never really take emails, pm's and texts seriously because if I was genuinly interested in a car the first thing I would do is pick up the phone!

My feeling is that the only genuine buyers are the ones who pick up the phone, ask a couple of good questions then arrange to view. And this was the case for my cossie and mexico and my series 1 RST and my 3door cossie and my XR2's before them. Funny that!

Anyway rant over! I'll probably be back in the RS world when I'm bored with the TVR

All what you said is very true, people expect mint 20-30 year old cars that have had no paint etc for silly money, i have had nothing but timewasters on pistonheads about my series 2 and it really fucks me off

I buy a car on its current condition not what it was like XX amount of years ago.... I absolutly hate selling cars it's much easier to break them when you've finished with them and you tend to make more £££ that way as well...lol

Used car Market is a bastard at the moment, peeps expecting stuff for fuck all.I think rs's are becoming their own worst enemy in a way as a lot of us in our 30's remember them being sold for fuck all due to the car crime of the eighties/early 90's.

I've got an autotrader from 95 somewhere with a selection of saph cossies for around 3/4k,that's 15years ago!!!you'd have paid 4/5k back then for a renault 19 16valve,worth about £100 now!!!so I think the point I'm getting at is rs's are such big money now peeps expect them to be mint as "they can get an Audi s4 for that money!!".people like quentin Wilson tell you to ask for these things and to check whether it's has "accident damage",what cars from the eighties haven't had a bit of paint?people sometimes forget they're still an old car which come with problems, let's face it we were changing battery trays, sills etc on escorts in the 1980's!!!!

We can't tarnish all people with the same brush as there's some really genuine people out there but sadly still a few muppetts!!!

I also never take people serious who dont call me

Far to many keyboard buyers who have no intensions of buying they just modern day window shopping wankers who think my time is free

If they cant afford the phone call they cant afford to buy

This website is one of the worst for timwasters these days , shame as it was a fantastic place to sell 12 months ago

The worst is people calling for say a £5k car that is well priced, then saying what you going to take.

You say your willing to budge a few hundred and they say.. I have seen them up for £4k

Standard reply to that is GO FUKIN BUY IT THEN

Some genuine people but soooo many people who think just becuase they can't afford it, it should be cheaper.

About to flog my sisters Civic Type R and have told her not to bother doing the little bits, people will still compare it to cheaper ones, just flog it cheap as they come with a few little bits to sort and hopefully being the cheapest will see it gone without the dreamers.

It's bad enough selling parts let alone whole cars.....totally agree, there's soo many messers about, think alot aren't really interested in buying stuff but think if they make a stupid offer and you accept it they'll walk away with the bargain of the century

its not just rs's though. I had a escort gti up for sale about a yr back. It was a 98R reg and was a cat c due to needing literally a bumper and front wing. I had it fixed then as i know the painter he blew the whole car over, it was and i often dont use this word- mint! I come to sell and had it up for a grand which is a good price anyway at the time and i was geting people textin etc saying oh its only worth 300. One bloke did call and said look its a cat c so its only good enough to be broken anyway! Er hello have u seen the after i fixed it photos. Ended up selling for 750 and since that day im not gonna bother with cat c or d cars. Had a xr2i once to. This car had been in a magazine used in a buyers guide about 10yrs ago. U can imagine what it was like when someone who had been textin and calling all fucking week turned up armed with said magazine and started comparing it to the car when it was featured. I ended up breaking the car as his offer just insulted me. Prob spent more on texts replying to him than what he offered.

I hate selling anything at the moment.I can handle emailing when selling parts just about but if its a full car or decent money is involved then genuine buyers normally make themselves known over the phone.I know I do anyway as I generally want to suss out what the seller is like if I dont know them.

I put my mk2 escort 4 door rolling shell on ebay with no reserve.

An hour later a guy rang me offering £660...I paid £800odd for it so thought fuk it, i'll take it...He then said I must take it off auction.

Turned up the next day whinging the paint wasn't mint like it looked in the photos....even though it was stated in the advert that it needed a re-spray!

Then he tried to haggle me down...Hate it when people expect things for nothing even when its cheap to start with, they still want it for less!

Not every buyer is like that but alot can be!

Rant over!

Cat c is getting really hard to buy and sell AND make a profit on,which is basically how the government wanted it,I've made far more cash with less hassle buying cheapies and just shoving the mot on them etc. When you take all the little hassles into buying salvage it really starts to add up,then someone hpi's it and want it for fuck all!!

There's some real dreamers out there right now, fueled up by programs like "don't get done, get Dom" with that short arsed baldy little cock-er-nay monkey telling peeps to knock anyone down by like 30-40% as were in a recession.the little prick even chased a car salesman the other day because he'd sold a car that had been previously accident damaged and how could he sell a car like that on??stupid cunt had a program on sky telling us all the money we could save by buying bumpy cars!!!fucking nobend!!!

Some top comments on this thread,it's a hard game at the moment if it's your full time proffession to make a living on......unless you've just bought a garage full of mint mk1 Rs escorts for fuck all!!!!

Takes the piss mate. Sounds like he obviously wanted it. When he turned up after texting so much I would have told him the price has just gone up £2k but only for him.

Glad I'm not the only one finding this at the moment.

Tempted to just take my off sale and garage it over winter, I know everyone loves a bargain but the majority of these people are just taking the mick at the moment

I agree, if you are serious about looking at a car you phone first, you can tell an awful lot about a car just by talking to someone first, as for these people that try and make an offer over the phone, what's that all about?

I don't think it's just car sales that are suffering at the moment though, general lack of money.

There is a market for these cars, just have to sit tight and fight your corner
