Default No more speed cameras?

Sky news are reporting that speed cameras all over the country are going to be switched off as early as next week because the money now goes dirctly to the central govt rather than being pocketed by the councils so they can't afford to run them any more.

Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And with dc cutting the budget by 40 it's all good news from where I'm sitting

the logistics of doing the whole motorway network make it unaffordable.

theres no way they could justify the costs on the grounds of a percieved saving in carbon emissions. simple fact is theyd have to set a reasonable trigger threshold for the cameras and if its like 77 or something then most people between 6am and 8pm will be under that anyway due to traffic density on most of our roads so the savings wont be what they claim as people still wont be doing exactly 70mph

the habitual speeders will just loose their front plates as its only a Ł30 fine and no points for no front plate and the chances of getting pulled are very slim.

so on environmental grounds its a flawed idea. same with the speed limiter thing some moron in that article was proposing.

but no points crucially dojj.

if your clever you leave plate in footwell and claim it fell off and wont stay on dash while your driving.

You can get away with it for a long time

if they want to reduce carbon emissions they need to reduce cars on roads not just trying to slow them down

No wonder now makes sense...

I know of quite a few cameras round my local area standard GATSO type things always flashing away. I happened to be around a 3 separate cameras one speed camera and two red light cameras. Two incidents at night time one in daylight all involving police cars. Now the cop car went zooming past the 40mph camera at a rough guess 65-70mph and it didn't flash. This was at night as well and I'm 100% sure it never flashed. And the other cameras that are red light cameras I've seen multiple instances of cop cars going through them without no flashes either. These cameras I've ALWAYS known to flash over the years and they haven't been doing for the past month. I thought was really strange but this seems to make sense.
