Default Autotrader - This grinds my gears.....

We're searching for a cheap car as a runabout and I went onto Autotrader, put in my search preferences and narrowed the search down to £0-£1000.

I would say around a third of the adverts are people advertising cars that are sometimes significantly over a grand, for £995, then putting in the advert that the car isn't actually £995, but £1295, or £1995 etc. I know it's ineffective for them, I don't give a fuck about that, but to have to trawl through pages of cars, most of which aren't relevant to my interests just pisses me off. It's obviously because these tight-wads want to pay the Bargain buy advert fee, for a car thats not a Bargain buy!!

i'm sure you can report it to autotrader and they'll remove them

but i know what you mean, another one that annoys me is when they enter the mileage as 124 instead of 124,000 so it appears under the 100,000 miles search criteria

I'm looking at cars in the same price bracket for the same reason. What models are you looking at?

Pistonheads is quite bad for it when you're trying to browse through everything within a certain distance. 3 or 4 pages of trade adverts before you actually get to a car that's for sale.

Yea that is annoying... so is the fact people are advertising cars with shitloads of miles and getting past the "under 100,000 mile" filter by putting 176 for mileage instead of 176,000 which only appears in the main description. Cunts.

Cheers,
Grant

We're looking for small/economical, which I think is different to what you want!

Renault Clio/Citroen Saxo/Fiat Punto etc.

For around £1k, you seem to be able to buy a half-decent 1999-2001 ish Clio/Punto etc. We don't really want a £500 snotter.

Why? You got something??!!

Well I know that you daft bastard.

I'm not questioning why it is happening, but the fact that it is happening and it pisses me off.

Are there any local free ad papers or sites ?

I'd always use them before auto-rip off.

More chance of getting a half decent bargain with them too.

If I did have it'd be a 1999 Fiesta 1.3, with 12 months ticket, new front discs/calipers/pads just had a new sump, a full service and a rear box... not the prettiest but a good solid car underneath, main down side it was owned by a painter so has white gloss here and there inside that I'm gonna try to clean off this weekend... and if I did have said car for sale I'd want £600 for it

shame you havent got it as it sounds alright that. Another hate on the auto trader is all the adds for cars wanted, two pages of that shit before you get to the cars under £500.
