Thanks Brad, the problem is, this forum is shifting info so fast its become unaceptable and newbies will be getting lost as they cannot find a topic when they come back the next day...

Example:
Weve shifted 450 topics today alone!

Weve filled 6 pages of general discussion today alone!!

weve gained 28 new members today alone..

Weve made well over 3000 posts today alone!!

Its getting quite serious now and something must be planned in order to keep things under control Id like folks help with this if possible

hi im relativley new to the place but lovin it...the thing i think this place lacks is the use of stickys where information or diy's or any information regarding something can be put into a section for relevant viewing...this will save things being repeated again and again...

cheers

like for example in the escort rs turbo section there should be sticky's on troubleshooting or tuning guide to 200 bhp and theres always someone asking for links for a zvh conversion, or diy fitting rear quarters etc. this doesnt have to be placed in the same section but mabye in a techincal archive or soming

im just talking about the stuff that gets repeated again and again...if someone asks again that thread could be answered by one of the admins properly and everyone can refer to it....

i hope i have cleared what i meant

cheers

O look These pages are already here!!

but are they put to the best of use

this section would be better above general.

by moving general down and putting FAQ & just say hi forum
new visitors will go here first and see whats going on before entering general

Still a kind of diy section
maybe made like a browser, klick on on engine, a drop down menu, then those YB, ect ect.

There is so much good info here....BUT it's not possible to use it all!
Take me fx. I'm having trouble with my ABS system in my saff .....dohhh I must be the number 10567 to have that problem.
HAving a good DIY section broken down into sections, engine, breaks, ignition ect. ect. would help a lot. BUT i'm sure it's a big thing to getting that info base started up!

Cheers Kennert

see i think you're missing a lot in my point here; I want one button to click on (there will be no more fora to see in the index view)
And ones inside the DIY sectionm one has to those engine, ect, ect,

that WILL spare the GD a lot, i for one was on a lot today regarding the ABS system problem.

I know this is a bit too much but i did a DIY on changing all the front end bushes some time ago, and put it all up on turbosport.....i'm not really on there anymore as there is no one there!

http://forums.turbosport.co.uk/bbs/s...&page=0#145640

But kind of something like that would be great

Cheers Kennert

How about a Fight Fight Fight! forum (stolen from BarryBoys!) where people can have their arguments away from GD?

As kennert says, a How 2 section would be very good. Could split it down straight into the car categories with guides of how to do different tasks. Could have a 'sticky' at the top of each forum for a 'how do I?' topic. People could then post their 'i would like a 'x' how 2' post & if anyone has the info, they could post it up in its own topic.

Also noticed over the last week, there's a lot of "My pics from 'x' show" in GD. People need educating to post them in the photo forum. Quick count: there's at least 3 from Bedford last weekend. Not saying that we don't want the pics, just want them in the right forum. Also, i know admin are busy (and welcome to the new ones ) but this is also their job to move topics to the right forum. If they aren't moved, then people will keep posting them in GD.

I would not split the "General" forum into two subforums. There are plenty of other rooms where people can post other non car related stuff...

I do like the suggestion about making a DIY section with all kinds of tips & tricks.
This can just as well be a "read-only" section or just a page on the mainpage in stead of on the forum itself.

The space used by Forum Index would be better used by narrowing it to, say, 75% of page width and adding a "quick info"/"hotlinks" area to highlight the existing FAQs and search features, e.g.:

- new to the site? Find out how to do such-and-such here
- view new posts in General Discussion since your last visit
- view replies to your posts

Also, forcing people to select the subject of their post, instead of letting people just post in any forum (that they have access to!), e.g. technical question (--> tech advice room), general question (--> gen discussion), chat and talk (--> chat room), etc.

Users should also be able to easily select how many threads they can view per page (an eBay feature), and also, how about a split-viewing option, where people can see the threads in two forums at the same time? This would be easy enough to do - just have two drop-down boxes either side of the top of the Index page where you can set a preference, e.g. left column is always gen disc, right column is chat/tech/whatever. I think you could probably do it without frames (please, God, no frames! ) and it would only take a little bit of thought to create a slimmed-down forum layout that can be displayed comfortably on 400x600 or 512x768.

Just my £0.02 (again! Sorry! ).
