I agree with keeping tech issues in the tech forum!

It would prompt a rename of the General discussion forum though, as technical surely falls into general categories!!!!!!!

Is there some way the general area can be "ungeneralised" and split into a few sub categories, that might slow it down a bit!

Other than that, top work and if all you've got to worry about is the lack of room, then you are doing something right!!!!!!

some of the posts could be pruned of un-relivent answers,
I disagree with this as we will have hundeds of discussions about "Where did my post go? Why didnt Mr X have his deleted, blah" Although i DO see your point.[/quote]

That sounds counter productive anyway!!

I would start a new thread to find out where my post had gone!!

(well i wouldn't personally but you get my drift)

Its that simple..

Baz i totally agree there IS a sway towards cossies.....no matter what people say. There aint no Clique, but certain people get replies to the wankest of posts just cos of A: Who they are or B: What car they have and some people have brown noses. But thats life. I didnt join for ages cos of some issues, but then thought i had a right to pay as i use the site VERY often.

Stu: Yeah, I sorta expected Pet to answer that last one .. well, stellar job you guys are doing IMO, and great to know that you're open to good suggestions.. I'm going to look into becoming a gold member.. I'll have to see the benefits of it, although, me being in Iceland might make it harder for me to use some of them, I imagine.. But I might go ahead and do that just to support the site

its about right how it is IMO.

(although i still keep getting the page not found problems and ive tried wiping the temp files etc etc)

a newbie section would be good I think and also trim back the other forums IMO... or seriously combine them. it looks confusing so dont bother reading them. then the people who do actually bother to try to post in them will get ignored.

the search function is slightly weird - although i wasnt aware of the AND bit to get both

I like it the way it is, Yeah sometimes peeps ask questions and they don't get answered, but me whenever I come on here the first thing I click is the post since last visit, or my post. I've been happy with that.

The fighting between some people on here doesn get boring quick, even though it starts out funny. I've renewed my membership without any bother cause this place IS the shit!
(even though the odd anti USA post comes up once in a while)

Lee Reynolds,
Baz i totally agree there IS a sway towards cossies.....no matter what people say. There aint no Clique,
Thats simply because Fords Cosworth is the most sucessfull and fastest Ford produced in large numbers and thus has the biggest following of all the fords out there. Surely folk can see that. Most Ford lovers love and respect the cosworth and its largely those kind of folks will be looking for a Forum about Fords, simple as that really. Im not saying its a good thing, just that its a fact.

Rs Baz,
thay should call it passioncosworths.com
You seem very Bitter Baz with nothing much positive to say.
I cant force people to like you or your choice of cars, all i can do is run this place to the best of my ability, sorry

Less,

Other Ford related BB's have probably never had 30% of teh traffic we get though Less, our "Messing" is a necessity to keep it all running.

no need for that on a forum mate. you can find plenty of pages that explain all the internet 'geek speak' using a search engine.

Mrs Frog,
Does anyone use the "View last post since last visited" option? That's IMO much easier to follow the threads than actually browsing only one forum at a time... I rarely just browse one forum ....
This too is the way I use PF, even have a direct link to that search on my toolbar.

I don't agree with the newbie forum, it most likely that no-one will go in there and newbies will feel left out as a result.

Stu, Pet and the rest of the team,

I have to take my hat off to what you guys have developed over the past 18 months, as it is truly outstanding!

The dedication time and effort that both yourselves and the community put in is tremendous.

The up keep of such a huge resource is something that not many people can appreciate, but your dedication (through times that I know have been rough occasionally) has most certainly made passionford what it is today.

Congratulations and lets hope the next 18 months can yield the same kind of action.

As ever I am always here Stu should you need any advice or ideas to bounce off.

Huge congratulations......... you seriously ALL deserve it!

Oh i agree Stu, Cosworths ARE the ultimate Ford.....infact one of my ultimate cars..thats why i had an escos. Wasnt saying it was a bad thing, was just agreeing that there is the sway...which is obvious. But people do get ignored and sometimes theres no need. And its all to do with Brown nosing.

Typical Example:

Sean Bicknell. Met him AGES ago when he first got his escos. Soundist bloke ive ever met. Helped me out a lot. At the time his car was about 270bhp with std alloys on etc!
When he used to post things hardly anyone replied, be it little mods he had done, or questions. As soon as he bought hadlands old engine, every fooker knew SEAN BICKNELL....Sean this sean that, knew his parents, knew his grandparents and what his fave colour keks were...and no matter what he posts now, he will get a reply from everyone!!!! Even if he puts a photo up of his ass.

Same fooking top notch sound bloke, but has the brown nose followers(not all though, a lot are genuine). I think its these little issues that puts newbies/non cosworth owners off posting IMO.
We need to help everyone, even if its just a quick reply to their pictures to make em feel they are welcome, and spur them along with what they are doing with their ford!

All IMO of course

Stu, how about some sort of feature where technical posts get moved to the Tech forum from General discussion after 5 days of inactivity or something?

(I.e. a mod basically loos at all posts 5 days old and moves the tech stuff over)

I doubt it could be done here but on the 205 GTi Drivers website they split the tech parts into Brakes, Suspension, Engine etc, and Maintenance/modification of each part is also split. Makes it very easy to find the right tech stuff, but I guess that only works on a dedicated one model website...

It is a top website though

agreed. and the forum is fast enough to be able to do it.

but on stuff that may or may not be techincal you will struggle with advice on here.

ive got what are probably simple problems with my car (the engine is no doubt fooked) I really wanted a fair few peoples opinion on it as its strange what happens with it... but i get one or two replies rather than a discussion. sometimes its a bit frustrating.... i could post about the size of my penis though and get loads of replies.

alot of people pass their time on here while they are at work etc... and not everyone thinks cars cars cars all the time.

it is biased towards the top motors... not just cosworths but 'special' 400+ cosworths.

the rebuilds and resto section is thrithing with loads of what i say are real car enthusiasts

agree with all that... doesnt matter being varied models IMO as theyre all fords... is the basics of what might be up with a wheel bearing any different on a 1.1 fiesta as its is says cosworth?

It is also doubly important to ensure moderators stay impartial to any tuner warfare etc that gets banded about on here. A lot of the mods are VERY opinionated/completely obsessive about which tuners people should use and quick to jump on arguments about other tuners business!!

Agreed, and its something ive been guilty of too.
It will be dealt with and i intend to ensure the webteam arent drawn into arguments in the future. This is hard though as it impedes on the freedom of speach ethic i like to uphold on PF.

If thats the case dont you think its a bit harsh to ban them?

Dont get me wrong, worst case scenario then yes, but surely a PM would do.

PF rocks as it is IMO. No change needed for me except maybe: https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=96438 (only visible to gold members I thinkl).
Thats one for Petrucci to answer

Lee Reynolds,
I know exactly what your saying, but that happens in All walks of life. If the school Geek knocked out the school bully, he would suddenly have 200 new "Best mates" Its life, nowt we can do about it but personally help the less popular

Phil,
Stu, how about some sort of feature where technical posts get moved to the Tech forum from General discussion after 5 days of inactivity or something?
We will be basing some new moderation rules on the outcome of this topic.

Keep the discussion coming please peeps, its all usefull to us as we want it to work properly for YOU
Oh no nothing you and pet can do about it mate. Just putting my veiws accross to the whole of PF in some attempt to maybe get em to help those who arent as fortunate to own a beast of a cossie!!! As said above, theyre all fords

quote lee

We need to help everyone, even if its just a quick reply to their pictures to make em feel they are welcome, and spur them along with what they are doing with their ford!

reply lee now that is one point im saying .

on the back window as my s2 is in the garage at the mo, whats the
point in me putting a post up to show everyone i advertise a top

As posted by many, I just as guilty as man for posting things in GD that should be in other forums (pics, comp/PC questions etc) although I have poiinted out to folk they are posting in the wrong forum when they ask for siggys

Problem is tho, I posted a question in the PC tech forum and got 1 reply, and I really needed som more info, so I posted a link in GD. Within 10mins I had a reply, asked a question, got a reply etc etc.... Peeps really need to look in other fourms more - one things I found really usefull on the site was "View My Posts" button, then the "View New Posts Since Last Visit" button - that brings up all new posts in ALL forums so to me it is like one big forum to me, not individual ones...

If others used this aswell then maybe there wold be less mis posts?

how about a tick box function when you post in the general.....

as in about 5 options pick one.... type of thing...

just thinking outloud...

1. help with car required
2. for general info
3. gossip/funnies/links
4. general help/advice/recommendation required
5. misc

make it mandatory that it is selected before it posts... like it is for topic title... ok it can be abused or people with multi queries may press wrong one but in general possibly help things?

would perhaps help mods to sort... and you could put a user selectable sort/filter on it.

same with for sale posts.... perhaps a tick box in the final reply box by the thread creater that says sold... so it can then be auto archived to a sold section of the forum (that is still visible by all for price comparison and to look at history of sellers etc) - rather than expected them to go in edit the post... put sold in the title etc

Nope, no ideas just leave it as it is, and we'll wait for version 3 to surprise us all

I kinda like the way the shoutbox (on the home page) is now, its just like a permanent scrolling version of loot
