Im glad we've grown & are continually growing - but i reckon you should ban people that take the piss outta me

Seriously, the general sections brilliant as it is - thats where everyone 'hangs out' sort of thing, if you start taking topics away from there it's gonna get boring. Whether it's technical or whaever if you need a quick answer you know your gonna get it from the general section whereas if you put it in the 'right' section you could be waiting for ages!

Default regional passion ford

just a suggestion but hows about a regional passion ford - say one for north east - one for south etc... that way you will be talking to someone close to where you live who could help with problems - also for buying and selling would be much easier - not sure how hard it would be but just a thought

Pretty happy with the way it is really. If you need help or advice quick, where else to post other than the General Discussion. Putting your technical query int he tech section means you may have to wait a while for an answer and people dont like waiting.

I just received the email and I like to contribute something.

In order to make the website better, you should think of a redesign.
Use CSS instead of tables. A different layout (less heavy).
Make sure it is cross browser compatible (the reason why I hardly come here)

If there are questions about stuff like this, you can email me: pf at boonenonline dot nl.

Have fun, and see ya al later!.

On the subject of multiple general Discussion Forums.. where do we draw the line? All cars? Non Ford? Just Ford?
Last thing we need is loads of new ones as IMHO we have too many now

cossiemen,
i'm not keen about 'paying for membership' as when the server crashes or
Pf disapears I'm losing my hard earned money
Well, Ł20 per annum is 5.4p per day or 0.2p per hour.
If your that worried about us having 1 hour shutdowns, i could refund you 1p every time we have 5 if that helps?
Seriously, when was PF last offline for more than a short time?

AJ,
i reckon you should ban people that take the piss outta me
Im sorry AJ, i just cant spare than many members yet!!

Splitting up PassionFord will reduce the number of posts, most members just browse the general discussion area.

I feel new members simply need to be educated in how to get answers to their questions. The problem isn't with PF it's with them, harsh but true.

New members need to be informed that their posts may dissapear quickly, the posts nees to have descriptive titles and if they need an answer then BTTT

Well i agree with splitting the general room

But as for the newbies you said about stu why not designate them there own forum ie ( New members forum) at least then they can post and we can all say hi and they won't feel left out !!!!!!!!

As i know that it is sometimes hard getting a post noticed and if u are new you are not going to hang around for long if no one notices u

only problem i have is the search! like jap crap said ...you put in the search FAO japcrap! then you get 90million pages cus he either posted in there or someone said his name when infact your looking for the post that started FAO japcrap!

Other than that!
you got rentons idea but rather than doin it ford, non ford

have it car/non car!

but other forums have this and there no where near as good! imho i like the fact its all jumbled together! (i know in the past i said it would be better to be split) but i have changed me mind! if you sort the searching out we wont be botherd cus then we can search for thread topicsrather than every single word in every single thread!

just my 2ps worth!

long live PF!

i like the search idea, if it was searching for just the title, mabey new people that ask things like " how far can i lower my car" etc will be taken to all the post's that have this and get the answers.
i reckon this would do away with alot of the questions asked in GD

Thats he only button I use! "View last post since last visit" and "Veiw My posts." (Which would be dead useful on the home page under my avatar.

It means I can scan through all the posts put up since my last visit and see whats new In all the forums.

I personally hate having to look through massive numbers of forum, its kinda daunting and I'm not sure just adding more and more forums will not help.

Even if you did make these extra forums how can you guarantee people will look at them? I run the fordsport foum and had to reduce its size by half cus people weren't looking at the other forum. Just doing this doubled the number of posts put up in a couple of weeks

The only real problem I have is sometimes the site is very slow. Other than that, not a problem I like it just the way it is

But like Renton said.... add a jap forum

He He..
That was my point earlier
If you type "FAO AND JAPCRAP"
It will only return topics with both FAO and JAPCRAP in them
Like i said.. read the instructions

No way, its a valid point and if anyone takes offence they are blinkered... i hate the way this ignoring newbies works but i feel PF is better than most forums for it, but maybe just because its generally busier than most...

get the modorators to shift eveything to there relevent sections and afeter a while people will learn not to put everything in GD because it will get moved

i think people post in gd out of habit and do it with out rearly thinking

im guilty of doing it just before this post

maybe put links at the top of the page to diferent popular forums so its just one click away so people will be arsed to post in the corect place

but on probably just talking b0ll0cks

Thats a very good point, but Stu is a busy man and he cant be expected to be the sole perosn to reply to tech topics, which i think is why people put it in the general discussion, especially if its help that needed asap.

IF I can suggest something it would be usefull to have extensive FAQ on many matters from simple rules of behaviour on forums to answers on typical questions like "fitting a breather system on Escort/Sierra Cosworth 2WD/4WD LHD/RHD".

I for example after being here for some time can't decipher what "FAO" means. I alraeady got "psml" and some other but this one not.

That's exactly what happens.

How many users browse more than a few forums? Not many I'd imagine.

Maybe we need an "Urgent Reply Required ASAP" forum.

That is a big problem that Stu is only person who always answers technical questions :-( It's both hard for him to do that for sure and it gives some people (like me) only one sided view of some matters.

A nice touch I've noticed is that when you search for specific word it now highlights that work in red rather than white!

This is definatley the biggest problem, every other topic in the general forum is a technical one. Sort this out and it will be fine.

Well, If it's suggestions you're looking for, you might think about not deleting my username and not responding to email about why that was done.. etc..

(No hard feelings though, love the site .. just a bit sour about losing all my posts)

The mail I sent you last summer:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Date: Wed, 14 Jul 2004 20:11:46 -0400
From: Steinn Eldjárn Sigurđarson <ses@data.is>
To: petrucci@passionford.com
Subject: Re: Welcome to PassionFord.com Forums

Good day, I'm curious, it seems my account has been deleted from the PassionFord forums?

I've just recently started my own company based on Open-Source software, and my time has been very hogged with that, plus my regular work, you as a coder probably understand that.

Could it be that a couple of months of inactivity has prompted my account expiration, without any notification?

In the e-mail quoted below there is information about my user/pass, which do not work, and the "I forgot my password" feature doesn't work either.

Is there any way of finding out what happened?

Best regards,
Steinn E. Sigurdarson
--------------------------------------------------------------

Btw, I'd be more than willing to offer help with the site, if any is needed, I'm a rather skilled programmer, although most of my work today is done in perl, I'm a good php programmer as well, actually project leader for http://www.php.is for example

My firm also has some well connected servers (albeit in the US) so we could even help with bandwidth load? Drop me a mail, if you're interested ses@odg.cc (and if anyone here is looking for F/OSS consulting, they should also feel free to drop me a mail )

Cheers

Just a thought but what about one Sticky at the top of general titled HELP ME

Then this post can always be at the top for people who need seeing to,,sorry perhaps the wrong words to use lol straight away

If its someone new posting and not an already on going exsisting problem someones having,,,BOLD it put it in YELLow, PINK, GREEN, BLUE etc,,,then people can always go in there and like any other post,,,,,know when the name changes on it that someone else has replied to the Help Post!!

As for others saying about FAO posts and stuff,,,,hey guys,,,,,,PM them

I love the site the way it is, and so many other forums,,,,well being blonde I'd prob get so lost I wouldn't know what room I was in,,,,,

Move the General Discussion link further down and move the car type further up

This should encourage people to post questions against the vehicle they belong to
