No its only a die in the dielsel, but it stains the tank/filters etc. Will get fucked if caught. Only allowed on site for machinery/generators as its untaxed fuel

the dye stays in the system for ages, and the dip tests used by the police are very sensitive to it....so even if he started using taxed diesel and gets dipped he may still get prosecuted.
not worth it.

It's just a dye, and will remove it.
The red dye is only added as a way of identifying it. Like stamping a sheep. Take that away and there's no way of telling. Well, I guess it could be lab tested for minute traces of leftover dye, but you're certainly not going to tell from dipping the tank, which is all the Police will do unless they suspect some kind of large scale organisation, not pulling over Farmer Giles in Land Rover.....

UV fades it out as well, but takes far too long to be practical.
Near me several of the filling stations on the main roads sell it, you just arent allowed to put it straight into your car, you have to pump it into a container.
Not as much cheaper as it used to be though, its about 80P a litre or so at the moment, when it was 20p a litre instead of 60p a litre it was worth the risk, but not just to save 1/3rd IMHO
If they catch you, they PROPER fuck you.

How much is red per litre?
I get bio fuel which is made from used veg oil - obviously it has gone thru a few process stages to get it to the quality its at. Just done 485 miles to a tank which cost me 34 quid

you can however use bio fuel - which is processed used veg oil. A guy i know local does it and he heats up to a certain temp and adds all sorts of stuff - proper mad scientist

Been running it for a while in my astra which is fly-by-wire and no issues - just make sure you keep a few spare fuel filters and change them regularly. And also use regular fuel from time to time to keep things lubricated.
best of luck

do a google search for diesel bob he has a section on his site all about veg oil and what vehicles can be used to run it safely he will also put uprated seals in some pumps specifically to run on it
i would stay away from biodiesel tho seen many a fucked car at work because of it it creates a fungus in it that gets all over the fuel system try cutting a fuel filter open on summat thats been run on bio they have all sorts of fungi in them lol!

being a farmer i remember red costing us 5p a litre to buy in! its about 65 now. was up near 80 though. worth running it if youve an old Ł150 deisel hack cos they can take the car off you!
not worth it in anything with any value now imo as a guy i knew got caught in his shogun on red and it cost him Ł800 to get it back on the road. was put in a pound and the police book it into a garage to get it drained and system flush etc

being a diesel engineer i know a bit about this, you dont want to run anything newer than say 03-04 on veg oil. Common rail high pressure systems do not react well to biodiesel (and this is far superior to veg oil).
red diesel will not have any adverse effects on your engine (as it is made to EN590), it is totally illegal to use it on road though, and you will get screwed if caught.
diluting red does not make it any less traceable to the police, and the dyes they use nowadays are very diffucult to remove. red diesel is sold to business for off road use at around 55p a litre so can seem a good options, but the fine you get will far outweigh any saving you may have made.
heating oil can be used in cars (assuming its not dyed (in 95% of cases it is)) but like stated before it has no lubricity additives, so will quickly f*ck your diesel pump when used for extended periods of time.
