just returned from hols (crime book fans)
Got back from holiday on Sunday and while i was there i read a book called "Escobar" written by his brother
for those that dont know of him, Pablo Escobar was a drug baron in Columbia, now dead though.
the book is brilliant and it kept me hooked! really recommend it.
here it is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Escobar-Insi...9038992&sr=8-1

i read alot of books and this is one of the best i've read for along time, frightening some of the stuff that went on in the 80's & 90's with drugs
so simple what he was doing and yet the financial rewards were there for all to see. His fortune couldnt be measured but some estimate he was worth $20 Billion, 7th richest man in the world.

I read the book "Killing Pablo" while on holidays a few years ago, really amazing life he lead and the money he made. For all the bad he did he also did some good with building thousands of homes and moving people from the slums into them, alot of the large estates he built can be seen today. He also built footbal stadiums near all the slums.

No doubting he was violent, but he also did alot of good as you say. Setting up his own social security system for the poor, supplying medicine etc to the needy -
Alot of crimes got pinned on him by the Columbian government just to make him appear worse than he actually was. I think he done very well considering he had goverment special forces looking for him, plus the army, plus the police, plus bounty hunters
