have not long finished my m4 escort track project with a 2l zetec on r1 bike carbs, so was out setting it up yesterday, first time ive realy run it then all of a sudden , bang , then bottom end started knocking like f**k then thick smoke out the breather, so gutted ternd it off and went home, just been up there now, took abit to start then was fine for about 30 seconds then startwed nocking again and the smoke then POP and nothing, wont tern over or anythink so i think it is officaly fucked i always wanted to put an st170 lump in it so may do that. what do you think my r1 bike carbs are worth with manifold as may put them up for sale and run a 170 lump standard,pete

 

i sold a set of these not too long ago bought them for £40 put them on ebay and got £230 wasnt even expecting anywhere near that as you can pick them up from a breakers for about £50 a set so put them on the bay youll be surprised what they go for

did you get the carbs set up or just run them as they were?

 

R1 carbs would need setting up to run right, from memory they run very lean on a zetec 2.0
still a replacement should be cheap to find i would get another one and swap them over then investigate what went wrong on the first one.
properly setup it should be pretty much bullet proof

 

get it out and stripped,see what went.
