I stopped buying Performance Ford a long time ago, what a waste of money. I still buy fast ford and i think theres too many mk2 Focus RS's but they're the latest and greatest so what can we expect? i'm sure all the cossie haters will of been sick of reading about them 10 years ago. Classic ford is a good read but i dont but it regularly.

I used to buy FF and PF every month from about 2003 onwards (god only knows how much I spent on them) - I think I stopped buying them in 2008. Got pretty bored of seeing the same sort of cars in the mags that I got to see on this forum on a daily basis. In fact, I seem to remember it got to the stage where most of the cars featured in the mags, I had already seen and read about on here in much greater detail.

The technical articles are good in the mags, but after 5 years I started to see the same topics being repeated. I still hold onto my collection of mags should I need to get ideas/advice in the future, but I'd never waste my money on them again.

PS - like the tag (whoever put it there)

Think everything gets slightly tiresome when you've bought them for so long.....i never buy performance ford anymore (used to be good a few years back) but still subscribe to fastford (usually a christmas present)!
To be fair, i've bought them for probably 7 years now and have seen pretty much everything there is to see rst and cossie wise and as said by a few i don't find the newer ford stuff as interesting to read about, mainly as they're often not as extreme or modded/track focused which is what i'm into!

so the problem is with you really then

a mag has to cater for all tastes within its target audience.

is it any surprise that youve "seen it all before" with cossies when some have been around 25 years???

Although people are still making more new bits for them still and putting the engines in more newer fords.

Think there will be some new features in PPC, practical performace car soon, esp in walkers workshop, had some very interesting cars being mapped there lately, saw some yesterday with opposite lock when I was down there.
PPC in the park is the only car show I have ever been to, at Mallory Park, thought it was very good, totally different to what I assume regular shows are like, thinbk I need to get out more!!

But why buy the mag when there's a zillion page build thread on here? Seems a bit silly to pay a fiver for a couple of pages spread when you can see every single nut bolt and screw on here for free.

What am i looking for?
Really the rs & cosworth has had its day most things that can be done with an rs/cosworth has been done (not complaing)
I like the more one of bespoke jobies, like a crazy space framed mid engine fiesta that joe blogs built in his shed!

The clue is in the title for the older mags.

We always have a Cossie and RST in every issue. But we strive to get a good balance of models and budgets in. So while we may well have something nutty with silly power, the next feature will be a mildly tuned fast road Zetec S. It's not easy and you can't please everyone but we try.

I personally love the crazy one off project type stuff but they are not always out there. I look for cars with a good story behind them. A stage 3 Saff on Comps or Super T's will get overlooked if there is one with unique mods or something mad, as the whole Stage 3 Cossie or 200bhp is boring. The RST's we feature have been pretty special of late IMO.

Last month we celebrated the 3 Door Cosworth. But still had a mint ZVH FRST, RS1600i and Mk2FRS. New, Old, Road and Track....

You're totally entitled to an opinion, and i always take notes on these types of threads but overall i do feel we have the right balance.

Warren Penalver seems to "get" what we are trying to do from the comments on here.

I personally LOVE track, big power and mad mods. But the young lad in the street may not. Or at least can't afford it yet. But we do try to be well rounded and fresh. It's not always to everyones taste but if we please the bulk of readers, we are doing our job.

We keep tabs on new trends and give coverage to them, while still trying to cover the old favourites and keep long standing readers happy.

I have a flick through them both in ASDA and buy them when I see something of interest. Not bought one for months...

I used to be a performance ford fan and think fast ford was a bit chavvy and not hardcore enough, but the mags have changed and i think FF is a much better mag the last couple of years with a more diverse range of cars as well as the hardcore nutter track beasts.

Performance ford seems to have a similar mix of cars, but it lacks the energy, drive and enthusiasm you get in the fastford articles and projects and hence it shows in the depth and quality of the work.

I think it's nice to see the STs and stuff really. I'm not a massive fan of them, but I think it's good to see a bit more variety. I love Cosworths and RS Turbo's and the like, but there's only so many features on an xxxBHP Saph on Comps I can be bothered to read.

I also think with the money these cars are beginning to cost, that makes them unattainable for a lot of people now. RS Turbo values seem to be shooting up lately, and running a Cosworth is a very expensive hobby, which an awful lot of people can't afford.

The more lower end cars the better as far as I'm concerned. I think a lot of people on here don't realise it, but to some, an Escort GTI or Fiesta Zetec-S with a set of cams, some koni's and a nice set of wheels etc might be their absolute pride and joy and the best car they can afford. Not everyone can afford a 500bhp Cosworth or a 300bhp RS Turbo, and I think the more we embrace those just starting out in the Ford world with more basic cars, then the better it will be in the future.

At the end of the day, the mags are called Fast Ford and Performance Ford, not RS Ford, or Cosworth Monthly.

Reading a magazine based on one small target subject is always going to get repetitive or boring. I don't envy the editors job one bit as it must be a nightmare trying to find "new" things to cover.

For me FF went chav a couple of years back but has sorted itself right out and PF used to be OK but Dave was an arrogant prick and not interested in anything other that top money builds imho. Seems to be back on track again too.

Personally I used to buy them all every month. However I just can't justify the outlay anymore so I treat myself to one every now and again when its of interest to me, like the 3dr special.
