Default Insurance Cancelled

I renewed the insurance on the 4i last week with a different insurance company.
Today i received a letter saying they are going to cancel the policy, no reason given.
I phoned them to ask why my insurance was being cancelled as i had sent off the modified vehicle form etc to them.
After a long delay i was informed it was because the car had a Cosworth engine fitted and not a RS engine that i had stated when they excepted my business.
They said because i had misinformed them they would not insure the vehicle.
I denied this saying that you have always known it was fitted with a Cosworth engine.
I asked about a refund on the policy and was told i would only get back £144 of the £269 i had paid
I then asked about reviewing the tapes that they make when you phone them, only to be told it would cost me another £25 to do this
I asked what happens if im correct, will i get a full refund and the £25 as well, line goes dead again for a few minutes before i get told Yes.
They reviewed the tapes and i had informed them correctly and im now going to get a full refund . The broker £ucked up.
Now got to find someone else to insure it

Performance Direct wouldn't insure me this year as i had too many modifications apparently
Same mods but a less powerful engine than when I was insured with them the year before, go figure.
I think the underwriters are getting a bit more picky about what they will insure these days.

insurance onbudsmin maybe? seems a bit out of order i was thinking have they gave you notice of your policy been cancelled or just cancelled it? The way i see it it was there fuck up so they should have to honour the policy that was offered imo as for declaring insurance was cancelled may put your future quotes up doing it online anyway as quotes are generated by a machine which you get a discount for using anyway i'd push them for a sweetner personally

Just for future reference anybody who records you in any manner whatsoever cannot charge to let you view(if camera ie cctv) or listen if tapes, they have a legal obligation under the data protection act to allow this, otherwise they break the law.
They should also inform you who is doing the recording and who operates the system if a company, you'll see notices around garages etc, they cannot charge for this.
If you get problems speak to the "data controller", every firm has to have one by law, who will know your entitlement.

Insurance is being cancelled on the 21st so got a week to sort it.

I doubt the onbudsmin would do anything.

I think the broker should have insured me with another company and then pay any extra that i would have to pay. They £ucked up not me.

its annoying but ultimately the only thing insurance companys care about is profit.

We live in a country where insurance is legally required. so they have us over a barrel. The only reason they dont fuck us all over is the little competition that still remains albeit decreasing as insurers seem to be pulling in the purse strings and ditching any risk. ie ditching us lot with fast cars!!

I get the impression theres going to be more and more cases like this and less and less brokers able to offer sensible premiums.

oh well shame! guess it was inevitable we were all going to get screwed.

Why pay 25quid for the tapes when you could send them a subject access request and pay 10quid, ok it takes up to 40 days but you'd still get copies of the tapes, or at least a written transcript of the the conversations.

i do believe they are aloud to charge a small fee to cover administration of providing it to you, however I think iirc the limit is set to a maximum of £10.

to be fair stigger darlo, you are their worst nightmare customer and they dont really want your business!!

two drink drive convictions will scare any sane motorist let alone insurers. They will look at that and see you as a massive risk because you clearly havent learnt lesson/dont give a shit.

i wouldn't go with footman james, last time i was insured with them my vehicle which had an agreed value of £5000 had a small loom fire, they told me to get quotes, i told them the car wasn't drivable, they told me to get it recovered to a repairer which i did, had it repaired and then they refused to pay leaving me with a bill for over £1000.

this car had no radio and was a morris traverler so basically very little wire so hardly caused by any after market equipment

Slightly off topic but i got banned for 6 months on July 3rd 2006. When i got my license back, i was insured on the company van, we then went to hire vehicles and again insured fine. Last year they told me i couldnt be covered anymore, so had to buy a daily driver etc.

Anyway, rang them today to see if i could get insured, and they still couldnt do it, you have to have your license back 5 years, sometimes they allow 4.

Its a joke, ive got a tt99 on me license, which were due to 4xsp30's. Last time i got caught speeding was Jan 06. Apparantly if ur caugh drink driving its 15years before they will insure you
