Question pitbulls

what are the laws on these dogs exactly? can you actually get them registered so the police know you have one?

American pitbulls are banned in the UK. It is illegal to buy one , or breed them. If you have one and the police find it , it will be conviscated, you will go to court and the animal will be put to sleep. some terrier type dogs have been identified as being pitbull type and also have to be put to sleep. I know the information as i own a boarding kennels
hope this helps

they can't be registered as pits u can register it as a staff if u know someone who's just had a litter and say theres one more pup than there is.

if the police see it and think it's a pit they'll take it off ya!! they will do tests that they have guide lines for and if it fits in to them they'll destroy it unless u can prove it isn't a pit.

have a look at http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item...art/pg_ftr_art

Reading that link it gives me the impression that you could own one if you can prove to a court it isnt a danger to the public you could have it registered aslong as it is neutered microchipped etc

Aye one of my pals has a 3 yr old dog, he is probably one of the best tempremented dogs ive ever came across never stops wagging his tail and is so gentle when you are giving him food etc. It is just such a pitty when they fall into the wrong hands as they can be great dogs.

Are you a complete twat mate? Advice like that is what gives true Staffys the wrong sort of reputation. In the event of that dog ever attacking someone it then gets reported that a SBT has attacked a person and gives the Staffy breed a reputation that it doesn't deserve. To be honest i don't think that anybody should buy a pitbull as while people are willing to buy them idiots will keep breeding them illegally. If nobody bought them then obviously nobody would breed them.

anyone who brings up a dog that is likley to bite someone shouldn't have a dog!!

the staffy's bad rep is down to idiot owners who havn't brought them up right and the amount of staff crosses that when they bite someone are reported as staffys!!

At least we agree on this one mate . Having owned SBTs for the last 30 years and knowing what fantastic dogs they are it really gets on my tits when they get the shit for other breeds of "similar" (and i use that word very loosely) appearance.
There was recently a case where a child in a town close to me was bit by a dog described as either a Boxer or a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, for fuck sake can people not tell the difference so yet again even if it wasn't a SBT it's name has still been dragged through the mud again.

totally agree with what staffy owner is sayin a young lad up near me got attacked by a bull terrier and the parent was adamant that it was a staffy even though witness's said it was not, i got my first staffy in january last year and after havin jack russell most of my life i would never have any other breed of dog, love my staffy to bits the most friendly dog i have ever come across.

I wouldn't dare own one, not because I think they are dangerous etc. I would be heartbroken if somebody took my dog away and destroyed it.

Staffs are so lovely,Ive only had mine since November but she's 8 yrs old and beautiful looking and lovely round other people, kids etc.not too good with dogs/cats/ birds etc as she wasn't walked by her previous owner a young party girl, she's been well looked after but I don't think she's interacted with dogs much, fiercely protective of her family but certainly not daft!!!

Don't let that put you off mate. Just make sure you get a true SBT from a reputable breeder with Kennel Club papers and if your dogs breed is ever in question you should be able to prove what it is.

my girlfriends dad has a staffy and its most good natured dog ive ever came across. all it wants to do is carry on and play with you. its a big softy always wanting its belly and back rubbed and very well behaved around other dogs when you take it for a walk, it's usually other dogs who approach it but he just wants to walk away

Just get a Ridgeback, all these Pitbulls/staffys are for chavs anyway

Must admit 9/10 staffs get a bad name out of the owners error in training/bringing up

Sorry mate, misread your earlier post. Yeah i know what you mean, you get so attached to your dog, i wouldn't even want to think of not having my dog around. If me & the missus ever split up there would be a custody battle over him.

Firstly I do not tar all dog owners the same and appreciate all dogs are different... But what I saw wasn't nice...

The other week I was driving home.. It was about 11pm in a not so nice part of Luton.. As I was driving along I noticed a group of lads in the middle of the road. So I drive up and noticed two dogs fighting.. Two staffs tearing into each other and the lads going mad trying to seperate them.. One lad had a cricket bat and was whacking the dog that had it's jaws locked on the other one... No matter how many times or how hard it got hit, just carried on... Wasn't nice to see, and sod getting out the car only to be stabbed..

Eventually they got the dogs apart.. Hopefully both made it.

It's a real shame that because it's fashionable to own staff by the local dolers, other owners get tarred with the same brush...

They had no control what so ever..

I have a staffy, an english bull terrier and a rotty cross, all of these dogs are fine and the reason for that is that they have a good home and have been bought up well, in a family environment with my 3 children, these dogs know who the boss is and know there boundries, weve had the rotty cross 11 years, staffy 8 years, english 9 months, we also had an other english before for 10 years and again he was excellent with people and children, you only get bad owners not bad dogs. It's all about how you manage your pets.

Agree 100% with both posts. I have never come across a bad SBT and i have been around literally hundreds of them (often all at the same time at dog shows) but maybe that's because all the other owners i know are decent, reputable people not chavvy little plastic gangstas that need a poor dog to defend them. If any chavs are reading this, if you can't defend yourself don't put yourself in situations where you need to.

Trained the right way for the country imo, we have an 11yo she's a calm nice dog and can be trusted. Of course we won't leave her in a room with a small kid for the "what if" situation.

Shame people do this, does make you feel like shit if you see pics of the aftermath. Poor dogs.

The Auntie has an old staff getting on to around 12 iirc, she only got him because her son and missus had a baby and as much as he loved the dog he could not trust it. Not tarring Staff owners btw.

Horrible! I have 2 Dogue de bordeaux's. They get a bad rap sometimes. Soft as shit though. Dogs are what you make them, but i would never get a pitbull. Mainly because it can be taken from you, and i wouldnt risk it. They would have to drag me away with the dog screaming like a banshee!
