Cat C and VIC
just bought an escort gti only to find out it is a cat c (i did hpi but with a crappy phone check which didnt show anything) on the direct gov website it has a VIC marker, obviously im a bit annoyed but not much i can do about it now. My question is, the guy had the v5 and i have the new keeper supplement and i need tax will i still be able to tax it like normal with the new keeper supplement mot and insurance? then i can still drive it and sort out the VIC check etc after that. thanks for any info!

I'm Finding My Feet Here Now
you wont be able to recieve a logbook until, the vic check has been completed .
and also the car should not be on the road till this has been done so any insurance is also void mate .a lad at work has just gone through the same thing and has to wait 2 weeks for a vic check at a cost of £42

so if when i take my new keepers supplement, mot and insurance to the post office they say sorry you need a vic. i then book a vic (can you get a booking quickly?) and then i can tax it with the vic certificate while i wait for the log book? as log books take forever to come through!

tbh, i've only ever waited about three weeks, if that for a log book. VIC check all depends on how busy your local test station is, i know people who have had to wait just a couple of days.

i just check on the dvla website which says:
This vehicle can be licensed at a DVLA Local Office without the V5C Registration Certificate.
Then underneath it says:
Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) Marker VIC required A Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) marker has been set against this vehicle record.
For more information on the VIC marker please visit Vehicle Identity Check
This is confusing! hopefully it wont be too busy then and i found one near where i live.

Mate,if you've got the paperwork you can tax it at any post office, just done it last week as it won't show up until you CHANGE the logbook over, people are talking shit on here again.like you said, new keepers supplement and way to go.best bet if you can is to travel to your nearest vosa centre and book an appointment there, should come through much quicker,as for being uninsured etc I've personally never heard of that and in fact my mother bumped her car and they cat c it and she's claimed since with no probs at all but companies do vary so get it done anyway.you could be unscrupulous when you sell it and say you've only got the green slip as it won't show it's cat c,naughty but it does go on!!!!

Ffs don't go to the local office as they'll have you applying for logbooks and getting letters and all sorts, miss Bognor Regis 1972 in the post office just zaps the book and way to go!!!

going back a bout 3-4 years i had a corsa sport that kept getting pulled over because it needed a vic check i bought it without the logbook cheap knowing about it, i had mot, tax and insurance and the police pulled me over because the car wasnt registered to anyone because of the vic, and i never got in any trouble for it they just used to ring my insurance company up.

the police never even asked the insurance company anything about the vic, they just asked if i was deffinately insured and i was sent on my way, this was about 3 years ago though no dought the police have got tougher during those few years.
