When you turn it on it starts to load up get the green bars across the bottom (normal) but then the screens goes black for a min or so then loads up, it normally goes alot faster dont get the black screen

Anyone got any ideas

Whats the spec of the laptop?

And how many programs are starting with windows? Try googling 'selective startup vista' to cut down the number of programs that start with windows.

Also, run some anti-spyware program, ad-aware is free and good. And try defragmenting your hard disc.

Failing that. Brick it.

Its a Microsoft product, thats how

Is it on a go slow before it runs Vista? Have you added any new hardware? Any windows updates? What AV do you run as McAfee was being a bastard earlier in the month? Can you change the BIOS settings to see what its doing rather than the windows screen?

Failing that, do what JohnnyB says, shove Win 7 on it. Best thing I ever done on my Tosh.

my vista is being gay and crashes everytime i try and update by antivirus/windows update. Think ive got one of those gay malwares that stop you updating to ensure its own survival hard drive wipe here we come. no virus can survive that

That might be the best option but it still doesn't answer why the performance/start up procedure has suddenly changed so dramatically. I'm not very clued up on computers but isn't it best to know what the problem is before you can go about fixing it. As stated already i don't know much about PCs but is this problem something that could still crop up again once Windows 7 has been installed.

I have the same with my system of late. Apparently Vista needs lots of power to boot it up, and depending on what systems start up with Vista, will depend how long it takes to load.
My screen goes black too, but then appears to be ok.

So without actually realising you may have just answered the OP's query.

What update(s) did you install? If its only 1 then remove it and see if the performance is any better.

Few things here may be of help

http://www.delete-computer-history.c...w-boot-up.html

Failing that, google Vista Slow Boot and plough through some of the pages/suggestions it returns.
