Default Can a warped wastegate penny be repaired? Can I do it?

I have just found out my wastegate penny isn't sealing, it only makes contact about 20%.
Can you take the penny out?
Then use valve grinding paste on it to flatten it out so it seals properly?
That would b great if I can, just need to figure out how to strip it, any1 done it before?
If not I've got a spare 0.48 to fit while I get my 0.63 repaired.
Then can any turbo place fix it? Any1 know a rough price?

I've been told how to strip the penny out, and told to flatten it on a belt sander, then try again.

Any1 else got any bright ideas?

Had this happen on mine but it was the wastegate arm that was bent and not making the penny seat correctly, Vince at CR turbo's sorted it for me got the full turbo rebuilt while it was with him and it cost me around Ł350.

Your the 2nd person to say that.

If that's the case, I have 2 or 3 spare wastgate pennies/arms, 1 is brand new.
Can I swap these into my turbo if they are the same size?
Would that be better?
Cheers

the arm looks to be pushed thru the housing with the bracket welded on the end normally.. if it has bent then i would have thought it would just bend again unless you change the arm.. best bet is either find a s/h housing or have it repaired.. id have the inconell arm to save worrying it might happen again..

I'll have a look at my spare new one and if it fits I'll use that, but I'll ring Cr turbos tomorow and see what they say.
Cheers peeps

just take it to a good engineering firm locally and they can sort it for ya !!

what happens is the arm over time ovals the hole it sits in ..... hence the penny not sealing properly

all it needs is a decent insert putting back in and putting back together ....
easily done mate by any good firm !!

Cool, looks like the poxy things comin apart again.
But it feels quite quick at the mo, can't wait for less lag and 2bar boost.

And I've got a local engineer I use.

update....

i have removed the turbo, stripped it.
and removed the wastegate assembly.

the penny isnt flat, its got a hump in it, so that needs to be machined/sanded flat,
also there was play in the shaft.

so im now going to see if i can find somewhere i can buy a new shaft, sleeve and maybe penny.
im gunna try all the usual turbo shops, any1 know where i can get it from?

if i can get the new bits i can easily put it back together myself, its already apart, will take me 30mins if that.

and it does need a new arm and bush.

i will ring him tomorow and see if he will sell me the parts or i will send it to him.
