Default Well I'm a proper tit aren't I...

Got caught by plod on a bike on my phone 3 points and a £60 fine

However, now I'm shitting it as copper pointed out the address on my license isn't my home address (it's my mums address as I'd forgotten to send it off for address change) Now I know this is a £1000 fine, but copped didn't say anything about it other than to ask why the address was different, and then explained that the DVLA will only post it back to the address on the license

Then I noticed something else, which I was just reminded about by another thread on here. My fucking license is expired! The photocard expired 06-04-10!!! Copper didn't say anything so I guess he didn't notice, and I weren't about to highlight it there and then!!!!

Am I gonna get royally fucked when my license goes into the DVLA for the points to be added, for a) having wrong address and b) it being expired?

Shitting it now. To be honest, not so much about the address, as I'm sure the DVLA don't give much of a toss about that - the fine would be from the plod am I right? But I'm worried the DVLA will shaft the fuck out of me cos my photocard has expired!

Am I done for?

A mate of mine got caught speeding last week and promptly went to the courthouse to pay his fine straight away. The woman at the fine office wrote the points on the license there and then. I guess you may get away with it though I dont kow exactly what happens at the fines office though.
She even commented that the fine was not on the system, my mate explained that he had only just got it the 30 mins prior to going to the fine office

I can't get to a court to do it tho, so I've gotta take both parts of my license into the plod shop and they send them off to DVLA who post them back to me, and I have to phone a number up to pay the fine over the phone...

ahh, in that case I would only be guessing what the outcome would be.
I would hope that all will be ok regarding the address. Maybe you could do the address change at the same time as the license is getting sent down

I thought it was HIM that was caught on a bike at first, clearly it was the police man on a bike that caught him, god knows why we needed to know what the copper caught him in but still................ you got busted thats the main point

And if you were reminded by my other post of the license expiry date then you will have also read that you will get a reminder in the post, where was yours?

Why is it that you license has expired anyway?

Do you have any medical issues that mean you have to re-apply for your license after a certain amount of years?

It doesn't matter about the address being wrong as long as you are contactable via that address, i.e parents house , another house you own etc.

Being out of date, a different matter.

You need to apply for a new licence IMMEDIATELY

From somewhere:
So can I drive while my licence is renewed?

According to a DVLA spokesman, qualified drivers are still entitled to drive a vehicle if their licence has expired, but what they must be aware of is that they could be charged with the offence of failing to renew their licence. If the matter went to court, then the motorist could end up with a £1000 fine. The spokesman went on to say that the reason photocard licences needed to be renewed every ten years was because people's faces would change over that period, so updates are essential.

You'll have to choose between taking the licence to plod, and not being able to apply for a new one till they send it back, not that they will as it's expired or

Not taking it to plod trying to renew it immediately but having to go to court to pay a fine instead of paying the fixed penalty.

.

How can what happen?

It's your responsibility to keep your licence up to date.

Glad I've still got a paper only one.

If it was me I'd ring DVLA in the morning and ask their advise, then do the opposite.........

Yeah but look at the amount of people who knew nothing about it, and why is that? because its printed in TINY letters on the front of a card which nobody EVER looks at

And its the same as Tax, why can they remind about something that comes every 6-12months and not something that comes every 10 years...

Add up the total tax paid over 10 years verses the income from 1 licence renewal...

.
Seem to remember from a previous thread somewhere in the World , (Canada?) licences expire on your 30th, 40th, 50th etc birthday.

No, you don't HAVE to have a photo card, unless you took your test after they came out.

Do you REALLY want, read NEED, me to explain that?

Seeing as you already have the information that as far as the DVLA is concerned, my address is my MUM'S address and not my current address, where do you think they might have sent it?

*whistles*

That's right! It must have been sent to my mums address! And as such I haven't got it!

And no, I didn't read you thread. Only the pop up highlight of it...

So if I go to the court with both bits of my license, get the points there and pay the fine while I'm at it, I can THEN send it off to the DVLA with a change of address form and this renew form and all will be done with hopefully no bother?

Or if I send it to the DVLA via plod to get the points, what are the chances DVLA won't notice, just issue the points and send it back, so I can then sort out the renewal and address change?

Fucking never rains but it pours I'm deffo up for a £60 yes, but I don't need to be up for another £2k of fine!!!!!

Correct!

I can honestly say I'd never looked at the date on the front of the card until now, I assumed the date on the back covered me up until I was of an age where I might be deemed unsafe to drive.

Not trying to throw a spanner in the works but I don't think you can go to court in england or Wales to pay,I think the other guy maybe from Scotland.you and 99% of peeps in Britain know nothing about renewal,I know I didn't as it was only cause I had to change my adress that the Dvla lady mentioned it.don't worry about those fines of £1000 for not changing the address/expiry,always plead innocence with the Dvla as they know absolutley fuck all.my old man worked there for 30 years mostly as a senior officer and I know they regularly threw out letters if they had too much workload!!my old mans been dead 13 Years so I don't think I'll be getting him in trouble now!!!

Maybe i have missed this but why does it matter about your photo card? Send your paper part off to get endorsed and then apply to change the address and get a new photo card. Its only the paper part that gets endorsed. I hadnt changed my address since i moved got caught speeding, sent paper part off to get endorsed and asked them to send it back to my new address, got it back at new address and them went online and did the address change online.

You only have to change from all paper to photocard / paper if you change details.

if you've got a aper license then you don't need to do squat

but if you have to send it off, they will make sure you get a photo one in return because they won't give you your paper one back

I had to send mine off with ,English address on when i live in wales and it was out of date. I changed the address online first and just hoped they wouldnt notice the date. 3 weeks later it comes back with the new address and up to date and minus the points they was ment to put on!!!!! So i dont think you need worry about it, My friend is a copper and he said as long as the dates on the back covering the category of vehicle you was driving expires when you are 70 DONT worry about the date on the front its something they Dont pursue if its not been left for years.
