front crank pully
no you cannot disconnect it you need to fix the problem.
The one I was working on the pin on the front pully has fooked it and the pully had moved.

Definitely this then. Jack car up and look underneath the bottom pulley on the engine, you will see a sensor bolted on this. It does connect with a multi-plug to the loom, and if you're lucky, it is just water in the plug (you can unplug it and remove the sensor from the car to see). If it is bone dry, then it is faulty and not water ingress causing the problem, if wet you obviously need to clean both halfs with a suitable electrical water repellant.
It is only Ł25 to replace if cleaning the plug doesn't work.

Id be checking the plugs as well and ENSURE they are AGPR 12PPs and NOTHING else. This model suffers from coilpack issues and they are heightened by incorrect plugs. Also check the connections to the plug in chip on the ecu, but only with IGNITION OFF
The above advice only relates to EEC IV Model ESCOS. As i recall thats what you had, but may be very wrong.

Does it have a chip cause mine has a problem of the chip getting loose after a while and I know it's loose because it does what your describing. when it comes on boost and starts to pull hard it's just enough to wiggle the chip and produce a poping backfire.

So you say one schould use only Motorcraft Plugs on this one? You say coilpacks are problematic? I ask because I bough mine with different plugs and tehy worked fine, not I have one from Ford and it still works fine no missfire but I prefer to expect the worst problems

Also, there is a Denso version of the Ford PP8 that is known
to work very well, quite cheap too
Dave Griffiths at Interpro often fits them to tuned Small Turbo
Es Cossie's.....allows a nice big gap to be used and NO misfires
