Default VW Electrical Problem.....

Got an 02 Beetle V5 Sport that the missus uses for work, she got in it this morning, went to start it, upon cranking the alarm went off, she had to take the key out, open the door and shut it again and the alarm stopped. Since then the car wont start. All the ignition lights appear but nothing when cranking. Any ideas? Could it be a door switch or something or immobiliser stuck on? Any way of resetting? Disconnecting battery?

Havent been to the car myself yet as im at work but she's stuck at home at the mo!

Any ideas? I know Beetles are prone to electrical probs but its the first one i've had in a year of owning it.

Cheers

I've just searched some german forums. Apparently there's a common problem with some small electronic device at the back of the instrument cluster (which is where the black box for the immobilizer is) and it looks like there's been a recall aswell.
